Beth Goetz officially takes over as UI athletics director [1]

The University of Iowa has named Beth Goetz as its new athletics director. She will officially take over after Gary Barta’s retirement.
Goetz has served as the interim Henry B. and Patricia B. Tippie director of athletics chair since Barta retired Aug. 1, according to the university’s announcement, and was chosen after the university conducted a national search. She will begin her work as the UI’s 13th athletics director right away while awaiting approval from the Iowa Board of Regents.
“I am truly honored and humbled to lead Iowa’s storied athletics program, and I am grateful to President Wilson and the search committee for their confidence in my leadership,” Goetz said in the release. “The University of Iowa is a world-class institution with a demonstrated commitment to athletics excellence, and I look forward to continuing to partner with our coaches and staff in support of all our student-athletes. It is a privilege to serve our campus and our passionate Hawkeye supporters.”
Before joining the UI in September 2022 as deputy director of athletics and chief operating officer, Goetz served as Ball State University’s director of athletics, and has previously held roles at the University of Connecticut and University of Minnesota.
Nicole Grosland, search committee chair and UI College of Engineering associate dean for academic programs, said in the release that the committee met “impressive” candidates during the search, but Goetz stood apart as someone with a good vision for the athletics department.
“Beth is a talented and dynamic leader, and the national search we conducted has substantiated that she is the best athletics director for the University of Iowa,” said UI President Barbara Wilson in the release. “She has done a remarkable job as interim, and I am confident she will lead our athletics department and student-athletes to new levels of achievement both on the field of play and in the classroom.”
