Date: 2023-12

U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra announced Wednesday he will seek reelection for a third term representing Iowa’s 4th Congressional District.

The Hull Republican asked for Iowans’ support in electing Republicans to serve in Washington, D.C. — both in U.S. Congress and the White House.

Now more than ever, we need strong conservatives to fight back against Biden’s radical, liberal policies that harm our families and our nation,” Feenstra said in a news release.

Feenstra first took office representing the 4th District, a longtime conservative stronghold, in 2021 after defeating incumbent former U.S. Rep. Steve King in the GOP primary. He defeated Democrat J.D. Scholten in the 2020 general election, winning 62% to 37.8%, and won reelection in 2022 by more than 67% when he competed against Democratic challenger Ryan Melton and Liberty Caucus candidate Bryan Jack Holder.

Melton plans to seek a rematch against Feenstra in 2024, having announced his 4th District candidacy in early July.

Feenstra announced endorsements from all Republican Iowa statewide elected officials as well as Iowa’s all-Republican congressional delegation, including Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds, U.S. Sens. Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst. Additionally, 26 state lawmakers, including Iowa Senate Majority Leader Jack Whitver and Iowa House Speaker Pat Grassley, endorsed Feenstra’s campaign.

The representative’s three Iowa colleagues in the U.S. House — U.S. Reps. Ashley Hinson, Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Zach Nunn — all endorsed Feenstra’s reelection campaign and praised his work in Congress.

“There is too much at stake to sit on the sidelines — I am proud to fight alongside Randy to keep Iowa red and protect our House Majority in 2024,” Hinson said in a statement.

Though he just launched his congressional bid, Feenstra has appeared on the campaign trail in Iowa in 2023 with presidential candidates. Earlier in December, he hosted Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy at a Sioux Center fundraiser as he weighs an endorsement ahead of the Jan. 15 Iowa Republican caucuses.

In his campaign announcement, Feenstra criticized Biden and Democrats’ policies, pointing to his votes on issues like “student-loan bailouts” and bills on transgender women’s ability to compete in women’s sports.

“I ran for Congress on the promise that I would deliver real, conservative results for our families, farmers, main street businesses, and rural communities,” Feenstra said. “I look forward to earning the vote of every Iowan who wants to get our country back on track and make Joe Biden a one-term president.”
