Iowa Democrats announce in-person precinct caucus locations for 2024 [1]

Date: 2023-12

The Iowa Democratic Party has reported the locations of its 2024 precinct caucuses where state Democrats will conduct party business such as electing county central committee members and delegates for county conventions.

Though Iowa Democrats will not be the first in the nation to express their presidential preferences in the 2024 nominating cycle, the party will still host in-person caucuses Jan. 15, 2024, alongside Republicans. In addition to the party elections, Democrats who attend the in-person caucuses will also be able to weigh in on Democratic platform resolutions to be discussed at county conventions.

People who want to attend the in-person caucuses can find their caucus location on the Iowa Democrats’ caucus website, using their precinct information, which can be found by entering a home address on the Iowa Secretary of State’s website. State party caucus locations are often different than a voter’s precinct polling location.

“It’s vital that Iowa Democrats show up to their caucus locations and get involved in our democratic process,” IDP Chair Rita Hart said. “Iowans want to bring balance back to our state and the work to make that happen begins on January 15.”

Iowa Republicans have also announced their precinct caucus locations where they will be caucusing for the GOP presidential nomination.

Iowa continues to lead the presidential nominating cycle for Republicans, but the Democratic National Committee voted to reorganize the calendar in 2024. Though the DNC’s proposed cycle kicked off in South Carolina, the New Hampshire Democratic primary is set for Jan. 23, 2024 alongside the state’s GOP primary.

Iowa Democrats wanting to participate in the presidential nominating process will be able to caucus using a presidential preference card, with results to be released March 5, “Super Tuesday.” Cards will begin being mailed out Jan. 12, 2024, and will be accepted if returned or postmarked by March 5. Democrats can request to receive a presidential preference card on the IDP website. The deadline to submit a request for the card is Feb. 19.
