Days after suspending his presidential campaign, Perry Johnson endorses Trump for 2024 [1]

Three days after suspending his own presidential campaign, Michigan businessman Perry Johnson has endorsed former President Donald Trump in his quest to retake the White House in 2024.
“[T]here is now only one candidate in this race who can provide a solution to our nation’s economic, foreign policy and social crises, and most importantly, beat Joe Biden at the ballot box. That person is Donald Trump,” said Johnson in a statement posted Monday to X, formerly known as Twitter.
The 75-year-old Johnson, a former 2022 GOP gubernatorial candidate, had cited “corruption” in the Republican National Convention as among his reasons for suspending his campaign, calling the process that denied him a spot at the Republican debate stage in August as “appalling.”
However, in his statement Monday endorsing Trump, Johnson listed major accomplishments the former president achieved in his first term as including “a new path forward away from corrupt, establishment career politicians,” as well as “historic peace agreements, no new wars [and] an economic revival.”
“I supported President Trump in 2016 and 2020, and am proud to offer him my full endorsement once again as he seeks the Republican nomination for President in 2024,” Johnson said. “I look forward to assisting in efforts to elect him next year and uniting with other conservatives to defeat Joe Biden in November.”
Johnson’s presidential campaign lasted a little over eight months after he announced his bid via a Super Bowl ad running in Iowa.
On Friday, Johnson said he planned to retain some staff “in the event the dynamics of the race change.” As of Monday afternoon, his campaign website remained active and was still soliciting donations, while making no mention of his campaign suspension nor endorsement of Trump.
Johnson’s Defend Them PAC also remains active. Started by Johnson after he missed out on qualifying for the GOP debate, he has promised to match up to $1 million in donations to help defend those “who are facing politically motivated charges stemming from the 2020 elections.”
Last month, Johnson said he could run for the seat being vacated by U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Lansing, next year.
In 2022, Johnson largely self-funded his campaign for Michigan governor, billing himself as a “quality guru.” He was one of five Republican gubernatorial candidates who was kicked off the primary ballot after the Bureau of Elections found an “unprecedented” amount of fraudulent petition signatures.
