Reynolds: Election results show that ‘parents matter’
['Katie Akin', 'More From Author', '- November']
Date: 2021-12
Gov. Kim Reynolds said Wednesday that the election — especially the victory for Republican Glenn Youngkin in Virginia — was “a great indication that parents matter.”
“(Virigina parents) made the determination that they weren’t going to be told to go home and shut up, that these are their children and they’re going to engage in the process,” Reynolds said.
Reynolds made calls for Youngkin over the weekend.
In Iowa and across the U.S., conservative candidates seized on dissatisfaction with President Joe Biden and major cultural issues, especially concerns about the economy and education.
School board meetings have been a flashpoint for politics in recent months, as culture wars over COVID-19 mandates, race and other issues come to a head. In central Iowa, voters elected several school board candidates who campaigned against mask mandates or in opposition to teaching about systemic racism or unconscious prejudice.
Reynolds did not reflect specifically on Iowa’s school board races on Wednesday. On Tuesday’s election overall, Reynolds said conservative victories were born of dissatisfaction with President Joe Biden and his administration.
“I think it is a reflection of what we’re seeing come out of this White House,” she said.
