Board sanctions social workers who kissed client, asked for a photo
['Clark Kauffman', 'More From Author', '- October']
Date: 2021-10
An Iowa social worker who kissed a client has been issued a citation and warning from the Iowa Board of Social Work.
The board alleges that Mary Limas of Roland, who is licensed to practice social work at the masters level, kissed a client on one occasion in December 2020.
That was the same month Limas’ license expired, but she has remained licensed to practice social work due to COVID-related emergency relief provisions that are now in place.
The board charged Limas with “engaging in sexual activities or sexual contact” with a client.
She was issued a citation and warning, and her license was placed on probation for two years.
In an unrelated case, the board recently fined social worker David Steenson of Des Moines $1,000 for a conflict-of-interest ethics violation.
The board alleged Steenson asked a client if he could photograph the client’s face and use it to make a painting.
