['Mia Maldonado', 'More From Author', '- November']

Date: 2023-11

Idaho Energy Freedom, a nonprofit dedicated to educating Idahoans about the economic impacts of clean energy, is hosting its inaugural webinar on Dec. 1.

The webinar, “Idaho’s Clean Energy Future: Indigenous Perspectives,” is open to the public, and it will include leaders from the Nez Perce and Shoshone-Bannock tribes to discuss insights on clean energy in the Gem State, according to a press release.

When: 12-1 p.m. Mountain Time, Dec. 1

The meeting will be held over Zoom. Those interested in attending can register at the Idaho Energy Freedom registration page.

Speakers include Chantel Greene, the founder and CEO of Xexus Greene Energy and former Nez Perce tribal council member, and Talia Martin, GRID Alternatives’ director of tribal programs for the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes.

Greene owns a consulting company focused on expanding opportunities for Native American tribal nations with clean energy companies. She served on Idaho Gov. Brad Little’s 2022 Energy Infrastructure Task Force. She also finalized a solar and energy storage resilience initiative for the Nez Perce Tribe, with Idaho’s first tribal Tesla megapacks, an initiative that featured service learning and workforce development opportunities for the tribe.

Martin is a member of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes of Fort Hall and has more than 12 years of experience in environmental waste management, nuclear energy and renewable energy. She previously worked as the Tribal Department of Energy director for her tribes, and she served as their liaison with the U.S. Department of Energy. Martin is passionate about promoting STEM-opportunities for tribal youth and integrating traditional ecological knowledge into her work with GRID Alternatives.
