Oct. 16 is deadline for Idahoans with an extension to file tax returns, payments [1]

Idahoans who received an extension to file their 2022 Idaho income tax returns have until Oct. 16 to file their returns and submit their full payment, the Idaho State Tax Commission announced last week in a news release.

Taxes are due each year in April, but Idaho law allows Idahoans to avoid paying a penalty for filing a late return if they have an extension, the tax commission said.

“Over 950,000 individual income tax returns have been filed so far this year,” Idaho State Tax Commission Chairman Jeff McCray said in a written statement. “We expect to receive around 50,000 more in the month of October.”

Idahoans who received an extension still owe 5% interest on any income taxes due that were not paid by the original April 18 deadline.

Information about filing electronically and eligibility to have taxes prepared and filed for free is available on the Idaho State Tax Commission’s website. Payments can also be made online at the Idaho State Tax Commission’s website using the E-Pay or Quick Pay options.
