Date: 2023-09
Community members are invited to attend a free drive-thru vaccine clinic Saturday at the Consulate of Mexico’s parking lot in Boise, according to a press release.
The Idaho Immunization Coalition is hosting the event through a partnership with Idaho State University, St. Luke’s and the Consulate of Mexico. Vaccines are available to anyone six months and older to help prepare for flu season, according to the press release.
Idaho State University students and bilingual medical professionals will be distributing vaccines, answering questions and ensuring safety. In addition, event organizers are providing $25 gift cards for those who get vaccinated at the event, while supplies last, the press release said.
When: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 30
Where: Consulate of Mexico, 701 Morrison Knudsen Plaza Lane, Boise
“As the fall quickly approaches and we start to re-enter our school year routines, it is time again to prioritize our health,” Idaho Immunization Coalition executive director Karen Sharpnack said in the release. “The IIC (coalition) and our wonderful partners are proud to offer a one-stop shop for you and your family to get your seasonal vaccines. This drive-thru clinic will be fast and efficient, making it an easy way to get the protection you need. Anyone and everyone are welcome!”
Flu vaccine event catered to Latino community, consul says
Head Consul Ricardo Gerardo Higuera said the Consulate invites everybody, especially the Latino community, to participate in the vaccination event.
“This (event) includes not only vaccines but also guidance in Spanish to address your concerns about prevention of contagious diseases common during this season,” he said in the release.
Dr. Alejandro Necochea, the medical director for St. Luke’s community health and engagement, said that every year the hospital sees patients with respiratory infections that could have been prevented with immunizations.
“Besides the health effects of these conditions on individuals, there is also the risk of infecting families or coworkers, and the financial burdens from lost work and medical bills. Now is the perfect time to gain valuable protection for the fall and winter seasons. This bilingual, no-cost vaccine clinic is especially helpful for members of our community for whom cost and language are often barriers to care.”
The immunization coalition asks that participants bring their vaccine card and wear a short-sleeve or loose-fitting shirt.
