Boise Valley Habitat for Humanity is partnering with Weyerhaeuser, a building materials company, to build and deliver a children’s playhouse to a local family, according to an April 18 press release.
The Playhouse Program is a volunteer opportunity that gives people a creative and hands-on day of building playhouses that are then donated to local children or child-serving organizations.
“Our Playhouse Program offers local children a chance to play in a space of their own, and Weyerhaeuser’s support makes that a possibility,” Boise Valley Habitat for Humanity executive director Janessa Chastain said in the press release.
According to the press release, the funds raised through the Playhouse Program support the habitat’s mission of building homes, communities and hope. Sponsoring companies must make a minimum donation of $2,500 per playhouse to support the cost of their group’s build day and benefit the habitat’s affordable homeownership program and services.
Weyerhaeuser’s Boise Distribution Center general manager Jessica Priest said that her team is passionate about giving back to the community through acts of service.
“With the proceeds of the playhouse build supporting Habitat for Humanity’s Critical Home Repairs Program that serves veterans and helps to support our elderly community members safely live in their homes, we knew it was a great fit,” Priest said in the press release.
About 20 Weyerhaeuser employees including leadership staff, sales representatives, forklift operators and functional support teams will build, paint and decorate the playhouse at its distribution center in southeast Boise.
Jannus’ Economic Opportunity program, an economic mobility nonprofit, has already selected a family to receive the playhouse. The habitat will deliver the playhouse to the family on May 2.
