Boise National Forest to host open house on wildfire management near Cascade [1]
['Christina Lords', 'More From Author', '- April']
Date: 2023-04
The Boise National Forest’s Cascade Ranger District is hosting an open house to discuss upcoming wildfire management programs for residents within the Cascade community and surrounding area, according to a U.S. Forest Service press release.
The event, which will focus on upcoming prescribed burns to reduce wildfire risk, is scheduled from 6-8 p.m. April 6 at the American Legion Hall, 105 E. Mill St. in Cascade. The open house will allow residents to engage with specialists, voice concerns and ask questions about the district’s plans related to fuel reduction and forest restoration.
“Specialists from a range of areas including recreation will be represented along with wildfire personnel,” said Chris Bentley, Cascade District Ranger, in a press release. “I’m looking forward to meeting community members as I begin my new position as the district ranger.”
This year, the Cascade Ranger District plans to use tools such as commercial timber sales, noncommercial thinning and prescribed burns to reduce ground fuels and undergrowth. Thinning and reintroducing fire on the landscape in a controlled setting will generate stronger trees that are more resilient to insect, disease and wildfire while also reducing the risk of wildfire to the surrounding communities, the press release said.
The event will be in-person and live streamed on Facebook. Information on streaming the event is available at the Facebook event invite. For information, contact Jim Bishop at Cascade Ranger District at 208-382-7400.
