Do you speak, write and read an Indigenous language from Latin America?
Do you want there to be more books, news articles and texts in your language?
Would you like to learn the fundamentals of translating into Indigenous languages?
If you answered “yes,” Rising Voices and Global Voices Lingua would like to invite you to participate in an introductory workshop on translation from Spanish into Indigenous languages. You'll not only learn about translation strategies, but you'll also be introduced to accessible digital initiatives where you can get collaborate as a translator.
Over the course of four sessions, which will be conducted in Spanish, participants will gain knowledge in the following topics:
Basic concepts in translation
The translation process: editing, publication and quality control
Translation strategies for Indigenous languages
Translation of informational texts
The workshop is a follow-up activity to the Indigenous Languages Digital Activism Summit 2025 and is organized in collaboration with Wikimedistas Wayúu and Wikipedia in Indigenous languages.
Dates:
Virtual introductory workshop #1 (2 hours): Monday, 7 April 2025 from 16:00 to 18:00 hrs (Mexico City).
(Mexico City). Virtual translation workshop #2 (3 hours): Tuesday, 8 April 2025 from 16:00 to 19:00 hrs (Mexico City).
Virtual translation workshop #3 (3 hours): Wednesday, 9 April 2025 from 16:00 to 19:00 hrs (Mexico City).
(Mexico City). Virtual translation workshop #3 (3 hours): Wednesday, 9 April 2025 from (Mexico City). Virtual presentation of platforms (1.5 hours): Thursday, 10 April 2025 from 16:00 to 17:30 hrs (Mexico City).
Anyone who completes all four sessions will receive a certificate of participation.
Requirements:
The ability to write, read and speak an Indigenous language.
The availability to connect virtually and participate in all 4 sessions (introduction, two translation workshops, presentation of platforms).
Preferably, the ability to join the sessions from a computer with an internet connection ( all of the work is online ).
). The submission of an application to attend through the application form.

Note: The workshop is free for those who are selected to participate. Applications must be received by 31 March at 23:59 hrs (Mexico City). Selected participants will receive a confirmation email before 2 April.
