Het Oude Zomerpaleis in Peking is weer in het nieuws. De verwoesting van dit paleis is nog steeds een gevoelig onderwerp in China. Het paleis werd gebouwd tijdens de Qing-dynastie en werd later in 1860 tijdens de Tweede Opiumoorlog door Britse en Franse troepen geplunderd. Talloze kunstwerken werden als oorlogsbuit uit het paleis geroofd en meegenomen naar het buitenland.
