Una rara tartaruga dorata, la prima di questo tipo, scoperta in Nepal [1]

Quando la notizia dell’esistenza [en, come i link seguenti, salvo diversa indicazione] di una tartaruga gialla nello stato orientale di Odisha in India è diventata virale lo scorso luglio, i nepalesi hanno voluto ricordare che hanno fatto per primi una scoperta simile: il 14 aprile 2018, per essere precisi, quando una rara tartaruga dorata, ma di una specie diversa, è stata trovata per la prima volta nella municipalità di Dhanushadham nel sud-est del Nepal.

Secondo un documento di ricerca di Kamal Devkota, Dev Narayan Mandal e Hinrich Kaiser, pubblicato nella rivista Herpetology Notes, la tartaruga era stata liberata nel suo ambiente naturale dove aver scattato delle foto come prova.

In un'intervista per email con Global Voices, Devkota ha spiegato:

Our team member, Chandradeep Sada, rescued this rare golden turtle from Dhanushadham Municipality, Nepal on April 14, 2018. Later, Dev Narayan Mandal identified it as an Indian flapshell turtle [scientific name Lissemys punctata]. We further researched it and found that the colour aberrations are quite rare in nature. The lack of body pigmentation made the turtle appear golden coloured, with only the eyes showing a dark pigmentation.

This is the first chromatic leucism in L. punctata in Nepal, which is the first for the northern subspecies of L. punctata and the fifth documented observation in the species. That's why it is very important for conservationists and researchers.
