A Twin Cinema Poem

the Mrs. and I play a little game called
“have you seen the news?” we sit and eat dinner together
And complain about the world like nothing is new.
My hubby and I (on another day)
keep a journal of the frightening doings of our leaders and
the way we’ve betrayed each other
Our values have no strength here.
Our hidden journal is the physical proof that
all that happened — did happen —
to us and it will be destroyed
will be erased will be denied
by my beloved when the police is at our door
to keep our love safe someday.
They can lie to us
They can change the history books
but we are here
— will persevere — to serve
We are living in the parody of
The darkest timeline.
