Pools, water parks and splash parks: Here’s where to cool off in the Sun City this summer [1]

As temperatures rise in the Sun City, it’s time to dive into summer fun. El Paso’s public pools and splash parks are opening their gates for the season, offering families the perfect way to beat the heat.

Whether you’re looking for a spot to swim laps or a place for the kids to splash around, here’s a roundup of locations open for you this summer.

The city’s Pavo Real Outdoor Aquatic Center, 110 Presa Place in the Lower Valley, opens weekends from Saturday, May 24, through June 7. From June 7 to July 31, the pool is open daily except Fridays. In August, the pool will be open weekends only. Check the website for hours and more details.

The city’s 12 indoor pools are open year-round, each offering different amenities, including competitive lanes, leisure pools and diving boards. Hours vary by location, most are closed Sundays. Check website for details.

The city’s nine spray parks will open for summer starting Saturday, May 24, through Sept. 14. Spray park hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Follow the city’s Parks and Recreation Page on Facebook and Instagram for details. The splash pads at the El Paso Zoo and San Jacinto Plaza also open May 24.

El Paso Water Parks: Oasis Water Park on the Far Eastside opens Saturday, May 24.

Camp Cohen in the Northeast, Chapoteo in the Lower Valley and Lost Kingdom in East Central are now open. One-day passes start at $15 on weekdays and $18 on weekends. Season passes start at $45. Check website for details.

The county’s three pools – Ascarate Park, Canutillo and Fabens – are set to open for summer recreational swimming starting Saturday-Monday, May 24-26, for Memorial Day weekend. Open swim continues daily from June 6 to Aug. 2. Check County Parks and Recreation on Facebook for details.

Socorro ISD Aquatic Center, 1257 Southview Drive off Joe Battle Boulevard, opens to the public for the summer starting June 7 and offers lap and spa passes, water aerobics, open/recreational swim and swimming lessons.

The Elmont Resort Swim Club at Montecillo, 240 W. Castellano Drive, is now open to the public. Day and season passes available. The summer season opening party is Saturday, May 17, with RL Grimes, followed by a day party Sunday, May 18 with DJ Snake. A special Latin night event is set for May 30 featuring the Kumbia Kings.

YMCA of El Paso offers adult and youth swim lessons, open swimming and fitness courses at the Bowling Family branch in Northeast, the Loya Family branch on the Eastside and the Westside Family branch.

YWCA El Paso del Norte Region offers swim lessons, open swim times and fitness courses at various branches, including Joyce Whitfield Jaynes in Central, Katharine White Harvey, Dorothy Woodley Hunt and Shirley Leavell Branch on the Eastside.

Wet ’N’ Wild Waterworld: The privately owned park, 8804 S. Desert Blvd. (Anthony Exit 0), opens daily starting Friday, May 23, through Aug. 3. Memorial Day weekend events include live music with a truck show and an off-roading trail. The park remains open weekends from August through Labor Day.
