Poppies Fest Features Music, Art, Family Fun
The El Paso Museum of Archaeology’s 18th annual Poppies Fest continues throughout the month of March, celebrating the region’s vibrant poppy bloom with a month-long series of events. Held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Saturday, the festival will feature performances, exhibitors, vendors, food trucks and workshops, with each weekend offering a unique theme.
The lineup for March 15 includes performances by cellist Rebecca Samaniego, the Pie Sisters and Ceiba. Activities include a digital photography workshop, painting and coloring, a cacao demonstration and art installations. Schedule and information: epmarch.org
‘Same Air We Breathe’ Exhibit Opens at Museum of Art
“The Same Air We Breathe,” an exhibit addressing the threats to the protections and visibility of the LGBTQ+ and Latinx communities, opens at the El Paso Museum of Art Friday, March 14. The exhibit by artist José Villalobos will have an opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. at the DeWetter Gallery at the museum, 1 Arts Festival Plaza Downtown.
Villalobos, who grew up in both El Paso and Ciudad Juárez, is a multidisciplinary artist whose work depicts “the intersections of traditional Mexican customs, American culture, and religious ideals, while challenging gender norms and the oppression of LGBTQ+ individuals,” the museum website states.
TecH2O Center Hosts Spring Break Discovery Series
Families looking for a fun and educational outing during spring break can visit the TecH2O Center, 10751 Montana Ave., for the Spring Break Discovery Series from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, March 14. The free event offers hands-on activities for parents and children, including making upcycled bird feeders, crafting wilderness bracelets, and creating musical maracas. The event, which is open to the public, encourages creativity while promoting water conservation awareness. Information: tech2o.org
Pi Day at Franklin Mountains State Park
Celebrate Pi Day with a hands-on outdoor cooking experience from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, March 14, at Franklin Mountains State Park. “Outdoor Cooking 101: Pies!” will guide participants through the art of baking pies over a campfire, with all materials provided. The event will take place at the park’s visitor’s center, 2900 Tom Mays Park Access Road.
Admission is $8 per adult, $3 for Texas State Park Pass holders, and $1 for children ages 5-12, covering both park entrance and activity fees. Space is limited, and reservations are required. Information: 915-444-9121.
St. Patrick’s Day Tales on the Rails Read and Ride
Jump aboard the El Paso Streetcar for a St. Patrick’s Day celebration Saturday, March 15. The Tales on the Rails Read & Ride event is a family-friendly reading with lore and laughter. Dress in festive garb and be ready to ride at 11 a.m. at the Santa Fe Street stop across the Judson F. Williams Convention Center parking garage.
The fun restarts at 6 p.m. with a St. Paddy’s Party featuring DJ Electric Dream spinning house and reggae. Boarding at the Convention Center stop or any of the 27 stops along the route.

• Mexican American Cultural Center Grand Opening: The city’s Mexican American Cultural Center, 201 W. Franklin Ave., will open its doors to the public Saturday, March 22. The grand opening celebration will have guided tours, hands-on activities, two new exhibits and food trucks. The MACC is a three-story, 41,000-square-foot cultural center located as part of the Main Library and the El Paso Museum of History. Information: epmacc.org

• El Paso Chihuahuas season begins: The El Paso Chihuahuas begins its 2025 Pacific Coast League season with a three-game homestand March 28-30 against the Salt Lake Bees, the Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, at Southwest University Park, 1 Ballpark Plaza. The Chihuahuas are coming off a 2024 campaign that saw the team finish ninth in the league standings. This year marks the 11th season for the Chihuahuas in El Paso.
