… “over the top” superencryption technologies like OTR or PGP have been available for 30+ years, and (for example) video player apps contain entire filesystem network stacks in user space because software engineers love bloating code in extraordinary ways, all in the name of usability.

Compelling people to write code is compulsion of free speech, and it never works for terribly long. The scary thing is that people still don’t understand this.
