“A back door to encrypted data could help to protect the public” | The Times | BWAHAHAHA MUST READ
2025-03-07 05:24:26+00:00
Dominic Holden is a lawyer. He believes in The Law. He apparently doesn’t believe that backdoors into private data offer-up arbitrary power to the state, let alone destroy the entire value proposition of encryption to provide systemic privacy – because The Law won’t permit that, and of course *we* don’t live in a police state.
Also, fuck the rest of the world, because…
Understandably, many will bristle at the idea of the government being able to gain access to their encrypted data. However, given that we do not live in a police state and the vast majority of us are not up to no good, a back door could help to keep the public safe, provided that there is robust, considered legislation and supervision from the courts.
…because once the technology is mandated by the UK, if Apple builds it, I am certain that Putin and Trump will seek robust, considered legislation and supervision from the courts, regarding its use.
