I’m beginning to wonder whether part of the reason there has been such recent successful advancement of illiberal policy such as Chat Control & Age Verification, has been due to the exodus of many of the information security community from Twitter to Mastodon because they felt it more important to stage a protest, to establish a safe space for themselves, and to deny negligible amounts of advertising revenue to Elon Musk, than to battle in the name of liberal common sense.
