Jaguar Land Rover locks-out 3rd-party charging applications from controlling what times a car is to be charged; Octopus (other?) customers are fuming

People using Octopus Energy “Intelligent EV Charging” are furiously sharing an email this morning in Facebook and Bulletin-Board communities:

Starting tomorrow morning, your electric vehicle won’t be compatible to smart charge with Intelligent Octopus Go. You’ll have to schedule your own charging from now on, and in early May, we’ll need to move you to Octopus Go prices. […] From 6am tomorrow, we won’t be able to control your charging anymore, so make sure to switch off in the morning to avoid charging at your day price. […] What’s happened? Jaguar Land Rover made some changes to their software which prevents third party charging apps (including ours) from communicating with their cars. https://www.ipaceforums.co.uk/threads/intelligent-octopus-stopping-for-jlr.7929/

It’s not clear what’s happened yet – commenters theorise that it could be a “security issue” or that there’s some hardware dependency like 2G communications that is being EOLed; but it’s this kind of infrastructure issue that makes far more sense for interoperable and standard regulation than does “This Instant Messaging App Became Too Popular”.
