Politicians should be using dedicated political messenger apps with record retention

2024-01-25 11:30:00+00:00

As I have said previously: no app is obligatory for communication, and the device is the point of integration of apps for the user; so if there’s a requirement for records retention (and there should be) then politicians, civil servants and spads should be obligated to use a custom chat app to communicate securely amongst themselves, for delivery of their obligations and to foster “work” versus “personal” differentiation.

Sure, WhatsApp messages have replaced what used to be unrecorded conversations in corridors. But they are committed to text, and all parties hold them, so this is just disgraceful: intentional deletion of the record. pic.twitter.com/L37cUA8egC — Charles Arthur (@charlesarthur) January 19, 2024
