Elder Farms, more than a century old, reinvents to revive — Ozarks Alive [1]

['Kaitlyn Mcconnell']

Date: 2024-10

HOBERG - Little is left of Hoberg, a town in Lawrence County that had pretty much closed up shop before the post office did in 1968. Once a going concern, the community is part of an area long filled by farms and families with hopes for a future that would be better than the past.

One of those is Buehler Farm.Perched atop a lush, green hillside, the farm began in 1899. Its founding family came to the United States from Switzerland twenty-some years prior, and ultimately immigrated to the Ozarks, which at the time was a destination for many European farming families.

Here the Buehlers began a small dairy herd, and grew traditional crops such as corn, wheat, hay, and soybeans. Four generations, and a Century Farm sign out front, affirm its legacy.
