The State of the Rural Economy in Indiana [1]
['Center For Business', 'Economic Research', 'Ball State University', 'Authors']
Date: 2022-11
This examination of rural Indiana is a collaboration between the Center for Business and Economic Research and the RUPRI Center for Local and State Policy (Indiana Communities Institute) at Ball State University.
In the first of four sections, we compare economic statistics for both urban and rural places in Indiana and across the nation.
The second section more closely inspects the inputs to the rural economy, including demographics, population projections, employment mix, and human capital and educational differences between rural and urban Indiana.
Our third section surveys special issues ranging from quality of life and access to quality technology and services to regional movement, immigration, and major industries.
Our final section summarizes findings and highlights those factors that demonstrate a causal link to economic growth, which challenge many common perceptions about growth in a modern economy.
