How Long Will We Wait To Fix It THIS Time? [1]

I debated for quite some time over whether or not to publish this rant. In the end, I decided to go with my gut - taking the risk of pissing off a lot of people, but hoping the stark reality of what I wrote here might serve as a call to genuine, meaningful action by those who, unlike me, are able to materially do something. (Oh, if I was but 55 years younger, the “good trouble” I could cause…)
All of the ongoing conjecture regarding Trump’s fitness to occupy the presidency have one glaring thing in common: all of them propose how he should be removed from government without recognizing a fundamental reality: getting rid of Trump by himself removes the symptom of the disease - NOT THE DISEASE ITSELF.
Forget for a moment that there are dozens of predatory fascist republican lackeys waiting to fill the empty chair left behind the Resolute Desk in the White House with a younger, more robust version of their rancid meat when Trump has either died or been defeated. Forget the overtly corrupted Supreme Court populated with fascist lap dogs that got there under false pretenses. Forget about the financial elite that bankrolls their political gunsels for economic control and implements their deviant ideas on social engineering. Forget the corporatized mass media and its obvious inability to distinguish the difference between fact and propaganda driven by the politics of their corporate masters through fear of retribution and threats.
Understand that every last goddamned brick in the wall that has been erected between this fascist oligarchy and what was our democracy (of sorts) was laid by a population infected with a virulent disease:
Human Nature.
No kidding. And I’ll just bet that anecdotal examples of that would be useful here. Okay then: here goes…
The People had been made aware for YEARS that Trump hung with mobsters and fixers from his earliest beginnings, while taking recreational delight in violently raping and f—king little girls, making ongoing wonton assaults on numerous women and cheating in business and on his taxes- and they still elected him. He masterminded an insurrection on January 6th, standing by while people were killed and injured yet 4 years later The People reelected him anyway. He stole classified government documents after leaving office the first time for the ostensible purpose of using them as bargaining tools with foreign governments hostile to the country’s interests and defenses - and even after that obviously treasonous deed, The People stiil reelected him. The People were presented with a detailed plan that the fascist republicans developed for their dismantling of the U.S. Government in their Project 2025 manifesto, and The People still gave Trump a veto-proof majority in both houses of government. The fascists aligned themselves with Nazis, Klanners, Russian butchers and genocidal governments, yet The People still voted for them.
All of this information was easily available for everyone to see for YEARS - some of it even DECADES. Hearings were televised. Multiple news reports documented ongoing prurient deviant sexual behavior as well as economic malfeasance and corruption that tarred virtually every thing Trump touched. Independent counsel investigations were held both length and at great expense and, though heavily redacted by a compliant “justice” department and a milquetoast Attorney General, their reports nonetheless STILL revealed complicity with our nation’s enemies, both foreign and from within. Tens of thousands of written articles were published since 2016 that chronicled the kind of persons who were in Trump’s orbit and even presented a detailed written plan to systematically disassemble the United States of America’s government. Theft of secret government documents… Twitter diatribes that would be called actionable slander by any other standard - and in spite of all of that - the evidence, the witnesses, the recorded video… 74 MILLION voters STILL handed the entire country over to the fascist hoard, lock, stock and barrel.
Why? because in spite of the mountains of obvious evidence to the contrary, The People willfully ignored it all in favor of what they were told they needed: cheap eggs, cheap gasoline, cheap money, cheap housing - and Trump declared himself to be just the strongman to twist those arms of commerce to deliver them - or so he said - in rallies that resembled Hitler’s Nuremberg meetings. A deadly combination of ignorance, malaise, fear and stagnation from the bottom half of the economic public carried the day for fascism in America.
Of course it was all jingoistic electioneering blather out of the mouth of a pathological liar, but that’s the kind of person that over 49% of the public identifies with. As a general rule, humans tend to gravitate towards others who share their personal standards, while wholeheartedly believing and endorsing whatever will make them feel appreciated, valued and important from whoever tells them what they want to hear without critical thinking or concrete evidence… which should be all one needs to know about the current state of America’s morality and intellectual depth. See, the real problem is NOT Trump and the fascists in and of themselves- if there was a genuine will to fight fascism and the effects of it on the quality of American life - not just merely " resist” as others who currently oppose the oligarchy declare- but decisively eliminate fascism in order to continue to build on that "more perfect Union", it would have happened by now.
America has always had an ongoing problem with selective amnesia when it came to taking lessons from history - even recent history.

The most expensive war in human existence was fought 85 years ago to defeat fascism that incurred an unbelievable cost in blood, treasure, labor, time, resources and innocence - yet in spite of all the blatant warnings that exhaustively documented the conditions that led up to it from history books, the media, the classroom, the television, eyewitnwsses and radio, nobody learned anything from it... or, more likely as not, nobody particularly wanted to or even cared. Was it that worn-out old excuse called “American Exceptionalism”… or were they just too busy being fat, dumb and happy in that post-war carnival of rapid economic expansion and easy money? Did anyone except Edward R. Murrow understand the implications of what Joseph McCarthy was actually doing to America? It seems that extended times of prosperity, relative peace and sufficient distractions create a deeply ingrained sense of terminal apathy that allows people to forget just how fragile and easily stolen their liberty really is. And so when there’s nobody paying attention to the reality of the moment, that slippery slope always picks up speed with every passing minute. So now here we are, some 80 years later: a shivvering, vulnerable public bleating futile invectives on social media, bereft of a sturdy moral compass and nobody left in the world to help us find a safe harbor. Even the old timeless standard of the First Amendment commonly called “Freedom of Speech” has been struck down by the dictates of one of Trump’s fascist gunsels in charge of the Media.
As a nation we did this to ourselves - for every MAGA who displays a Nazi or a Confederate flag; for every boardroom “captain of industry” who throws another couple million dollars into a fascist republican candidate’s campaign pot; for every gullible, broke, desperate person who bought into Trump’s spiel that that he boosted from that old Dire Straits song promising “…your money for nothing and your chicks for free” attitude- and, most especially - to every irresponsible fool who can’t be bothered to get up from their couch and vote on Election Day - this is the America The People asked for. And when that confederation of hyperconservative christofascists have finally killed America either through subversion or apathy and they’ve driven the last nail in the lid of Liberty’s coffin, all the money they looted off of America’s corpse won’t be able to buy anything because there’ll be nothing left worth having.
It took just two small words: human nature … that inbred curse on progress… the propensity of CORRUPT, GREEDY, WILLFULLY IGNORANT, SELFISH, RACIST PROVINCIAL PEOPLE who plunder everything they consider to be weak, archaic and vulnerable - the disease that has sickened and killed every developed human civilization throughout history - is tearing this country apart. So while the current crop of fence-sitting "moderates" build their insular cocoon of strongly worded letters written in supple diplomatic language and their white glove approach to every threat is met with even greater daily outrages, the fascists consolidate their power and continue to use their old tried and true tactics of fear, threats and intellectual starvation to solidify their grip on Liberty's throat. The rest of us who still possess empathy, dignity and honor are being dragged down with them with scarcely any weapons left to defend ourselves. Murrow himself said it best: “A nation of sheep will be governed by wolves.”
So what’s next? In upcoming elections, will armed federal soldiers be stationed at every polling place and demand to see a current passport and a birth certificate before a person is allowed to vote? And will a candidate who opposes a fascist incumbent even be allowed to be on the ballot? Time will tell…
