Texas Democratic Vol Turnout continues to amaze... [1]

It’s becoming a habit. Before Democrats took their Quorum Break in August, Texas was in the mix for the state where the most volunteers showed up on Saturday. But the Quorum Break was like a rocket ship for volunteer turnout. On Fridays, it is my practice to highlight the state where the most volunteers showed up in the previous Saturday’s Hope Springs from Field PAC’s [dated website] canvasses.
As many as two-thirds of these volunteers in the last month came from (mostly) the House Democrats’ campaigns of those who left the state. But what is amazing (at least to me) is that many of them stuck around, even beyond what we had agreed to.
And while we didn’t push our culture at first, the numbers keep showing that they did buy into it — even to the degree that one of these new volunteers asked, “are you ever going to call me?” They didn’t realize that the volunteers first on the list are those whose data are deemed suspicious by their organizers.
I did actually contact that volunteer, although not on Thursday. But she was eager to share her insights — and thrilled (her word) that someone was willing to listen. “It’s not like other canvassing I’ve done,” she told me, “and I think I’ve become a better listener.”
“Campaigns seem to want to narrow voters’ choices,” she said (i love it when volunteers explain campaigns to me</snark>).
“You mean offer contrasts between those running,” i countered.
But she wasn’t to be diverted. “Voters are providing us with their own ammunition,” she said. “We just have to listen.”
Hope Springs from Field in a nutshell. She just had to tell me. You can’t buy that kind of enthusiasm. We just need to be reaching more voters.
Texas is no longer the biggest state we are in. California now fills that role. In fact, we go into the Fall more determined to thwart president felon’s plans to rig the midterms. We continue to canvass in Arizona, Georgia, Iowa and Pennsylvania — until the weather falls outside our range. Arizona may go until Thanksgiving. Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Texas are all part of our special Voter Registration project conducted mostly by Divine Nines (we have had a couple of HBCU alumini groups that were organized around their school, not greek groups). As you can see from the graph, it is working (you can also see when these special African-American volunteers don’t canvass on a weekend). We continue to canvass in Ohio in anticipation of new Congressional District maps. And we just started to canvass in Northern California in support of Prop 50. So we aren’t letting up.
New Rigged MAGA Map
We’ve now shifted from trying to stop Gov. Abbott’s rigged districting to how to win these rigged seats. We have a different theory than Republicans, and it’s based on what voters are telling us rather than the whims of a felon. There’s lots of data out there to confirm our theory, as well. We are not giving up these districts, and that’s a key step in this battle.
And there is good reason why. “Even some of Mr. Trump’s staunchest supporters in South Texas said they were queasy over his immigration enforcement tactics.” Which is exactly what we have been hearing at their doors.
2,210 volunteers showed up on Saturday and knocked on 162,214 doors. Prior to the Quorum Break, we would see ~750 volunteers show up. So the increase in volunteer turnout is notable. Volunteers talked to 12,977 voters and had in-depth conversations with 8,305 of them, guided by our Issues Questionnaire.
Hope Springs from Field PAC began knocking on doors again on March 1st. We target Democrats and unaffiliated voters with a systematic approach that reminds them not only that Democrats care, but Democrats are determined to deliver the best government possible to all Americans. The voters we talk to continue to tell us they come away more invested in governance and feel more favorably towards Democrats in general because of our approach.
