Happy Friday, beer fans! O'zapft is! The world’s greatest beer festival has started!

This week in my countdown of Barstool Mountain’s Top 100 Drinking Songs: #93 — Wasted - Black Flag Black Flag will be back later in the list with Six Pack. x x YouTube Video

As I mentioned earlier, the Barstool Mountain list ignores the “songs people sing while drinking” concept. At Oktoberfest every tent has a band playing, and singing along is a big thing.
I understand why Barstool Mountain picked only American songs for their list, but the Hofbräuhaus-Lied might be the best known drinking song in the world.
Singing along helps make it a party not just a trip to the bar. You want something in the song that the audience can catch onto quickly, such as “eins, zwie, g’suffa!” Last year our band did one called Hulapalu, and I didn’t understand until I found this video — the point is to get the whole tent bellowing out “hodeo-deo-deo-deo”.
Some of the English-language standards are Sweet Caroline, Take Me Home Country Roads, and Highway To Hell. Highway To Hell is an obvious one where everyone can sing the chorus the first time they hear it. As for the others, as Billy Joel put it, “don’t ask me why”.

Bay Area FNBB readers can come meet esquimaux, or at least get some free music with your beer, at these Oktoberfest events:
Sat Sept 20 1:00 - 4:00 - Fieldwork Brewing, Berkeley
Sun Sept 21 1:00 - 4:00 - Fieldwork Brewing, San Mateo
Sat Sept 27 1:00 - 4:00 - Fieldwork Brewing, San Leandro
Sat Oct 4 1:00 - 4:00 - San Pedro Market Square, San Jose
Sun Oct 5 1:00 - 4:00 - Fieldwork Brewing, San Ramon
-—
To get in the spirit I grabbed some assorted Oktoberfest-style beers, I’m drinking Accordion Man right now. After this it’s probably Maui Waui.
What are you drinking? Anyone brewing?
