The signs are clear — we are no longer in a functioning democracy. We have to fight to get it back.
How? We need to be like ants. Individually, they do just a little but there are so many doing just a little that they achieve their goals against great odds.
We need to do the same.
Those with some coin to spare, can donate to Kos, Free Speech TV, ProPublica or dozens of other entities that are pushing back and continue to promote the truth. Support your local NPR or PBS station and local independent media that brings the news. Factual sites such as Wikipedia and Snopes can also use your support. You choose who you support.
You also can donate to the ACLU, the NAACP and MALDEF legal teams, and other legal entities that are fighting for us in the courts.
Withhold funds from organizations that have capitulated to the orange menace — Disney, LA Times, Wash. Post, etc. My list of stores and online sites that I will not buy from grows and grows. There are lots of lists available online.
My friend looks up things on Amazon and then buys directly from the source but not through Amazon. This is a way you can minimize your funds supporting Amazon.
If your local station is owned by Sinclair or Nextstar, let them know you made a list of their advertisers and have decided to minimize your spending on products advertised on the station and will no longer watch. I don’t use the word boycott because I may have to use a product or store; but I consciously avoid buying something whenever possible.
I also deleted all Disney and ABC programs from my watchlist. Roscoe, my parrot, is now watching Nick Jr instead of Disney. (Yes, parrots love TV especially cartoons.)
Send comments to your local media on relevant topics.
Contact your elected officials and let them know in no uncertain terms that you are opposed to the current administration’s actions. Let them know you oppose the Nextstar-Tegna merger.
Set up a schedule to contact your officials on a relevant topic each week. Make sure they know you are watching them very closely. Don’t hesitate to voice your opposition if they support suppression or praise them for supporting democracy.
Go ahead and contact that idiot Carr at the FCC and let him know you oppose his tactics and the merger.
Support your local liberal candidate even if it is in a red district. We are seeing red seats turned to blue in special elections. Don’t forget to vote in every election especially school boards, city councils, county boards and special elections. The turnout for these are usually very low and your vote has a greater impact.
Go to local protests if you are physically able. Bring friends along and make it a fun outing. Find a local No Kings event October 18 and join in.
