They Have Kirk, We Have Kimmel & Colbert; Hit the Streets [1]

There cannot be any dispute that Trump and Republicans have politicized an assassination. Charlie Kirk, St. Charlie to those on the Right, is no one to be admired. He advocated Joe Biden be charged with treason (no logical reason other than a different political view) and given the death penalty. Myself and many others have already chronicled Kirk’s hate-filled speech and bigotry. The abrupt suspension of Jimmy Kimmel’s late night talk show in concert with the eventual end of Stephen Colbert’s show has aroused liberals and progressives. Freedom of speech is at the center of this ugly, often uncivil rhetorical warfare. Instead of pondering the demise of American democracy (see other DK essays), or giving up in hopeless surrender to the forces of despotism (again other DK essays), HIT THE DAMNED STREETS. What the hell are we waiting for? I have repeatedly encouraged a NO POLICE STATE uprising, amassing twice the turnout at a mass demonstration as seen during the No Kings protest. I know that a nationwide protest is scheduled in mid-October to repeat the No Kings protests, but we are facing a critical juncture. Seize the moment. The Jimmy Kimmel debacle provides the impetus for a massive uprising that could overwhelm the media coverage of the Kirk killing. The time to strike nonviolently in the streets is NOW, not some month in the future when it may be too late to be effective in dissent.
