Late Breaking News this afternoon. I'm off to look for more details.

x Just now, 11 state and city lawmakers were arrested by DHS police on the 10th floor of 26 Federal Plaza after a hour of demanding access to the ICE lock up on the same floor. @thecity.nyc

Homeland Security Arrests 11 NY Elected Officials Inside 26 Federal Plaza. www.thecity.nyc/…

Department of Homeland Security police officers arrested 11 local elected officials inside Lower Manhattan’s federal building after they had demanded access to immigration enforcement’s shadowy holding area on the building’s 10th floor. The arrests at 26 Federal Plaza happened after an hour-long standoff, with the lawmakers refusing to leave the hallway outside the lockup, banging on the locked doors, and eventually sitting down to chant and sing before they were hauled off in zip ties. All 11 have been released. Those arrested were city Comptroller Brad Lander along with state Senators Jabari Brisport, Gustavo Rivera and Julia Salazar and Assemblymembers Robert Carroll, Emily Gallagher, Jessica Gonzalez Rojas, Marcela Mitaynes, Steve Raga, Tony Simone and Claire Valdez.

Back to our regularly scheduled Shade.

x Union that reps the musicians on Kimmel: “This is not complicated — this is State censorship, happening in 🇺🇸… a direct attack on free speech… we stand with all those who will be out of work because of government overreach.”

That would be FCC Chair Brendan Carr.

And today,

x The Trump admin makes it clear that they are just getting started and their War on Free Speech is about to escalate. bsky.app/profile/acyn...

x FUTURE HEADLINE PROBABLY: SCOTUS lifts stay blocking removal of Jimmy Kimmel from ABC on 1st Amendment grounds using the shadow docket with scant explanation. Kavanaugh's concurrence briefly cites Article II powers. — Mueller, She Wrote (@muellershewrote.com) September 17, 2025 at 5:11 PM

What was it he said that was so awful? Just the truth.

x Trump admin doesn’t want anyone to hear what Jimmy Kimmel said: “The MAGA Gang (is) desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said www.nbcnews.com/pop-culture/...

Oh and guess what? Theres another, lesser reported (hah, wonder why?!) angle to all this.

x This is the real reason Jimmy Kimmel is being taken off the air. Brian Stelter: "Nexstar already owns lots of TV stations. It wants to merge with Tegna, which owns lots of other stations. In order to do that, it needs Brandon Carr, the FCC Chair's, permission."

[image or embed] — Blue Georgia (@bluegeorgia.bsky.social) September 17, 2025 at 6:17 PM

x Republicans spent the last 24 hours trying to justify ABC pulling Kimmel based on reasons other than intimidation and threats from the Trump admin, then Trump goes full Col. Jessup & pisses all over the narrative & admits he ordered the Code Red because Kimmel hurt his feelings. — Ron Filipkowski (@ronfilipkowski.bsky.social) September 18, 2025 at 11:28 AM

Sue is F'ing a$$ Jimmy.

I wonder if there were any rethug co-signatories?

x NEW: Senate Dems ask FCC chairman to turn over any communications w/ ABC re: Jimmy Kimmel “..unacceptable for the FCC Chairman to threaten a media organization because he does not like the content of its programming—it violates the 1st Amendment that you claim to champion”

But apparently, Brian Kilmeade blithely suggesting homeless people be euthanized is A-OK. Oh and JDivance:

===

Also this:

x NEW: Trump is designating "Antifa" a terrorist organization (though there's no legal mechanism to do - but the law doesn't matter anymore.) He's using the Kirk murder to justify going after democrats. Those of us who read Project 2025 knew this was coming - but that provides little comfort.

[image or embed] — Mueller, She Wrote (@muellershewrote.com) September 17, 2025 at 5:38 PM

x A grim reminder: these people will never be satisfied. There’s no point at which they will say “we’ve won, let’s enjoy life.” They will always be looking for someone else to punish, to revile, to dehumanize. They’re empty without that. — Stand With Chicago Hat (@kenwhite.bsky.social) September 17, 2025 at 8:04 PM

DC;DR (Don't Care, Didn't Read, it's Karl F'ing Rove), but still. Of course, he has no relevance to FIDJT or the MAGA crowd, so they probably DC;DR either.

x ROVE: “.. Using Charlie’s murder to justify retaliation against political rivals is wrong and dangerous. It will further divide and embitter our country. No good thing will come of it.” @wsj.com

Elsewhere, because of course they did.

x Trump doesn't have to replace Fed Reserve board members to get lower interest rates. He just has to keep tanking the economy like he is.

Nancy Mace, being Nancy Mace.

You go Rep. Omar!

For our Kentucky Shaders. Joel Willett is not taking Laura Loomer's cr@p lying down.

x Laura Loomer claimed credit when Tulsi Gabbard revoked my security clearance, unleashing her right-wing mob. Next came death threats. Today, I launched my campaign for U.S. Senate. She already called me a professional liar, a gaslighter, and a "traitor to his country," and the day isn't over yet.

Ex-CIA officer Joel Willett announces Democratic bid for McConnell Senate seat. www.lpm.org/…

A month after the Trump administration revoked his security clearance, former CIA officer and veteran Joel Willett is running for one of Kentucky’s two U.S. Senate seats. Joel Willett, a former CIA officer and Army veteran, announced his bid to replace U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell. The field of candidates has become more competitive in recent days, as Willett joined state Rep. Pam Stevenson and former Secret Service agent Logan Forsythe in the Democratic primary. Several Republicans have also announced their candidacy, including U.S. Rep. Andy Barr, former Attorney General Daniel Cameron and Lexington businessman Nate Morris. Willett, who grew up in Louisville, told Kentucky Public Radio he was inspired to run because he believes working class Kentuckians need to be represented by someone who has the same background. Willett has not previously run for public office. “It's been increasingly hard for me to sit on the sidelines while I watch people who grew up in families like I did and families like mine just become increasingly invisible to a corrupt political and economic system that's steamrolling them every day,” Willett said. After the Lexington Herald Leader reported Willett was considering running as a Democrat for the Senate seat, the Trump administration revoked his security clearance. At the time Willett was the CEO of Cybermedia Technologies, a Washington-area technology contractor. He said he chose to leave his position rather than embroil the company in his conflict with the administration.

FIDJT in the UK. That's all I'm gonna mention about it.

x If Biden made a gaffe this egregious and embarrassing it would be front page news in the New York Times. But now it's just Trump being Trump!

Some good news, though I had to dig deep to find it.

x BREAKING: Judge Kelly (Trump appointee) bars the Trump administration from deporting Guatemalan kids in HHS custody, finding the claim they were “reunifying” kids with their parents “crumbled like a house of cards” upon review. ecf.dcd.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin/show...

Now this is honest to goodness good news.

x All hail VICTOR!!! He's a real-life hero whose selflessness & courage is an inspiration to us all. Wishing you a complete & speedy recovery. I salute you, sir! 🫡

Evening Shade Seekers! h/t Tigerupjp. On this date in 1996, President Bill Clinton designated the Grand StIrcase-Escalante National Monument (long).

I've never been, but now its on my bucket list (about 5 minutes).

Also, Happy National Purple Bra Day!

Happy U.S. Air Force Day!

Happy National Cartonage Day!

National Cartonnage Day is celebrated on September 18 every year. It is a day meant to celebrate the art of cartonnage, or making boxes. The practice originated in France in the 19th century and has seen a bit of a resurgence recently. More and more people are realizing the joy of cartonnage and creating boxes out of a variety of fabrics and materials to decorate their living spaces. This centuries-old practice involves creating fabric-covered boxes from the inside out, with cardboard as the base. Fabric is later laminated to the base and then embellished to the artist’s liking.

Kittehs love this day!

Happy Look Up An Old Friend Day! (Long)

Happy National PawPaw Day!
