Whiteness Wendesdays: Y'all, I Just Can't With This Today. [1]

I’m not going to talk about Charlie Kirk today. He’s gotten enough digital and real ink. You know who he was, and I’m not changing anyone’s minds if the man’s own words haven’t swayed anyone.
No, today we’re talking about being crass about someone being killed. We’re going to talk about someone being shot for living their life in peace, not hurting anyone, and after their cold-blooded killing people who hated him just for who he was celebrated.
They made jokes, they posted hilarious pictures and memes about it on social media, and they showed absolutely no remorse or pity, or respect for his mourning family. Anytime someone called for respect for the dead, they went to work digging up everything they could, every scrap of conversation or post online they could find to drag this poor victim’s name through the mud and justify why he deserved to die. “No one deserves to be killed while just minding their own business!” was not a shield for this murdered person: they piled on and laughed and taunted anyway.
I am talking, of course, about Trayvon Martin.
I’m furious, I scalded my foot with chicken grease last night, and I didn’t get to finish setting up my new Ko-Fi and writing an essay for today. Damn. Don’t fucking come at me telling me that “the Left” is being disrespectful and out of line here, not when the right has literally been celebrating killings and holding meet & greet autograph signings with the killers for years now. They auctioned Zimmerman’s gun, Robinson is in jail and Democrats want him there. It’s not comparable, not even close, and I’m not pretending otherwise to anyone.
