Instead of SATs, let’s have MLTs [1]

Let’s have Media Literacy Tests instead of SAT tests because frankly misinformation and disinformation online is a scourge. In this era where politics is being done more online than it is in congress, the “right to know” has become problematic.
There is such a thing as too much information, especially when dealing with a population that is for the most part media illiterate. If this past week has been evidence of anything it has been evidence of that for me. That’s why I keep writing about it.
The number of left leaning media outlets I’ve seen sharing the above picture is ludicrous, since these same outlets had shared the first images of the killer with the matching sneakers when his identity was published, and it was quite obvious that this was the same picture that had been photoshopped a couple of days later.
Whether or not they did it purposefully or not is beyond the point. The point is that it is detrimental to our side for a couple of reasons. First, we don’t do propaganda or shouldn’t and two these kinds of “mistakes” diminishes our credibility.
Again how are we to convince anyone we are the good guys when we use the same propaganda tactics as the right? And yes in some cases it was a deliberate choice to use that image, knowing it was fake and then others picked it up because they trusted that other media that put it out and didn’t fact check themselves.
Even here on DK someone posted it thinking it was real (they took it down). If I as one on this side of the aisle I’m now distrustful of our information channels… what of others?
There needs to be more education on how to navigate the wealth of information online, not only in schools but in contents. Fact checking, Fact Searching, should be drummed into every mind until it’s instinctive and automatically applied.
Yes, life is unfair and we got to be 10 times better than them in order to prevail, just like Black folks have to be 10 times more qualified in order to get the position, life is unfair and maybe that is something we need to hang on to as we move forward. Hell I’d make it our motto “Life is unfair, but we won’t give up anyway”.
