Welcome back to the Monday Good News Roundup, where your GNR Newsroom (Myself, Killer300, Bhu, and the GNR discord) bring you the good news to start your week off right. We got a lot of good news so lets get right to it.

But first this weeks music. Starting us off is Bye Bye Bye by NSync.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -Former U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy is expected to step down from Congress before the end of his term, CNN reported on Friday citing sources, adding he planned to stay at least through the speaker election due to begin next week. McCarthy does not plan to get involved in the race for a new speaker, CNN reported. On Tuesday, he became the first House speaker in U.S. history to be ousted from the top congressional post.

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out brother.

Good morning and Happy Sunday, everyone! As always, this is your good news only update to start the week on a positive note. This past week has been especially difficult for many, and later this afternoon I’ll cover the serious news that deserves your attention. But right now, I want to begin the day with stories of hope and inspiration—because we could all use a reminder that good things are still happening in the world. On a personal note, I received some exciting news this week: our channels had a measurable influence on the Canadian elections. According to a study from The Globe and Mail, we were the most-watched American news channel in Canada—ranking just behind two of Canada’s largest domestic outlets. That’s proof that our message isn’t just reaching people in the United States, but resonating across borders and around the world.

Just a reminder we aren’t the only one in this. There is good news everywhere if you know where to look.

A federal judge has dealt a significant setback to the Trump administration's campaign against elite universities, ordering the reversal of more than $2.6 billion in federal funding cuts to Harvard University. In an 84-page decision issued September 3, U.S. District Judge Allison Burroughs found that the administration's actions violated both the First Amendment and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, concluding that the government's stated justification—combating antisemitism—was a pretext for imposing ideological control over the university. Newsweek reached out to Harvard and the Trump administration for comment via email outside of normal office hours on Thursday.

Another day another judge slapping Trumps hand and saying no. I will stop reporting these when they stop being so satisfying. Which wont be any time soon.

It didn’t take long. Immediately after the Trump requested newly gerrmandered congressional map of Missouri was passed into law, a group of voters who will see their current congressional district carved up to create a new seat for Republicans filed a lawsuit challenging the new map.

People are not gonna put up with the GOPS attempts to rig the maps in their favor anymore.

New Mexico will become the first state in the country to begin offering free universal child care, Democratic Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham announced. The move amounts to an expansion of an existing program that went into effect three years ago that has aided thousands of families in the state.

Very cool news out of New Mexico.

President Donald Trump is finding that the scandal surrounding his past ties to Jeffrey Epstein is refusing to fade. This week, Jeffrey Epstein's name came back to the fore with the release of a birthday note allegedly sent by Trump to the disgraced financier, published by The Wall Street Journal and circulated by Democrats on the House Oversight Committee.

Oh this is fun, I hope that this never goes away.

There’s good news for LGBTQ+ married couples who want to stay married: The Supreme Court is not likely to overturn marriage equality any time soon. Alarms were raised recently by an appeal to the Supreme Court by Kim Davis, a former Kentucky county clerk who spent six days in jail and paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines for refusing to issue same-sex couples licenses in her state. Davis has been on a mission to topple marriage equality since it became law in the Supreme Court’s landmark Obergefell v. Hodges decision in 2015.

I know we got a lot to worry about at the moment, but lets make sure we keep our heads.

Nearly half of Americans now believe Donald Trump is too old to serve as president. A YouGov poll shows 49 percent of respondents share this view, a 15-point increase since February 2025. Newsweek reached out to the White House for comment on the findings, but no immediate response was provided. At 78 years old, Trump had been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, becoming the oldest man elected to the presidency. His age has become a focal point, especially after photos of his bruised hand circulated online. The White House later disclosed that the condition is common among older adults.

I hope somewhere Biden is reading this and just cackling to himself.

BRASILIA, Sept 11 (Reuters) - Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was sentenced on Thursday to 27 years and three months in prison hours after being convicted of plotting a coup to remain in power after losing the 2022 election, dealing a powerful rebuke to one of the world's most prominent far-right populist leaders. The conviction ruling by a panel of five justices on Brazil's Supreme Court, who also agreed on the sentence, made the 70-year-old Bolsonaro the first former president in the country's history to be convicted for attacking democracy, and drew disapproval from the Trump administration.

Ha! Good riddance, enjoy prison you wannabe Trump. Hopefully we can send Trump to join him eventually.

One of the most tragic beginnings in life for a child is to lose their mother during childbirth. This was incredibly common in the past, and it still is in many countries today. But the world has made much progress in reducing maternal mortality rates. As the chart shows, maternal deaths per 100,000 live births have fallen by 57% since 1985. Progress was temporarily reversed during the COVID-19 pandemic, but rates have started to fall again since then.

Despite some of the problems we have, the world is still a better place now than it was 40 years ago, this is just one way how.

Now for a musical break. How about…. the Spaceballs theme?

Talk about pulling yourself up by your bootstraps. That’s just what Nevaeh Murphy managed to do on her second try one muggy morning this summer. “I did it!” the beaming Bladensburg teen exulted, after tugging and pushing herself a few feet up a towering oak tree on the University of Maryland, College Park campus. Nevaeh was one of 32 high school students who spent a week in July at an Urban Forestry Careers Camp climbing trees, tracking deer, watching arborists at work and learning about jobs in the care and management of trees in cities and suburbs. Tree climbing provided perhaps the students’ biggest challenge. After struggling to get off the ground on her first attempt, Nevaeh achieved liftoff the second try with a foot strap attached to the arborist’s tree-climbing gear that she had donned. It enabled her to use her leg muscles as well as her arms to inch up the rope dangling from the tree trunk. The camp, sponsored by the Maryland Forestry Foundation, is an offshoot of the larger Natural Resources Careers Camp held every July for the past 45 years in woodsy Garrett County.

That’s pretty cool. Its always nice to see people offering to teach kids new skills.

Lavon Bracy Davis participates in debate in the Florida House on March 26, 2025. (Via Florida House) While it was no surprise that two Democrats easily won special legislative elections in Orange County on Tuesday night, party members contend that their margins of victory indicate increased voter intensity for Florida Democrats going into 2026.

Oh yeah lets get ready for 2026. Blue wave baby lets make it happen.

After years of giving millions of dollars to literacy programs, bookstore employees and librarians, James Patterson has now launched an initiative on behalf of emerging authors. The bestselling novelist and true crime writer announced Wednesday the first 12 recipients of grants from his "Go Finish Your Book" campaign. Authors each will receive up to $50,000 to help them complete their manuscript.

*eyes shift* yeah I may have some writing to do in the future, excuse me.

U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders plans to hold rallies in North Carolina this weekend as part of his “Fighting Oligarchy” tour. The independent Senator from Vermont is touring the country to speak out against the Trump administration. Sanders launched the tour in response to cuts by the Department of Government Efficiency, led by billionaire Elon Musk.

Always nice to see Bernie doing his part to help fight the good fight.

ot on the heels of the release of seventh studio album Man’s Best Friend and music video for its second single “Tears”, which featured Colman Domingo in drag, Sabrina Carpenter has continued her ascension to fully-blown pop princess at the 2025 VMA Awards. For the performance of her latest single, Carpenter emerged from a manhole, surrounded by RuPaul’s Drag Race stars Willam (season four), Symone (season 13) and Denali (season 13 and All Stars 10) as she kicked off the number. Carpenter, who held a whopping nine nominations at this year’s VMAs, was also joined by Beyoncé collaborator Honey Balenciaga, a legendary ballroom performer who has appeared on Queen B’s most recent two tours.

Its always cool to see celebrities use their platforms to help others.

I think that’s a good stopping point for this week. Always leave em wanting more that’s my motto, anyway time for Pokemon.

And now please enjoy the cute corner.

And I think we’re done for this week. See you all next monday
