The Left Needs To Come Clean In Order To Defend Itself From Coming Tyler Robinson/RoomMate Attacks [1]

Listen up guys
There is a growing chorus among the Right that Tyler Robinson is gay and his roommate is transsexual and may be his partner.
I believe the Left, which includes the progressive movement and the Democratic Party as a whole, may be in a blind spot when it comes to countering this attack effectively, and in order to counter it effectively, it needs to come clean about the history of the Democratic Party as an effective shield.
Today, I was thinking about much of this tug of war between the Right and the Left regarding the political affiliation of these young white shooters is generational and how much that fact has gone unacknowledged.
When the Alt-Right came along, what struck me was the fact that there were so many young white gay males among them. Milos Yiannopolous was the most famous example among them.
The alt-right was a collaboration of the libertarian movement and the GamerGate / 4Chan culture online.
These are young white males and females who grew up in a post Civil Rights Era world where the LGBTQ community is relatively more widely accepted and aren’t killed as frequently as they were during the days of Matthew Shepherd, mostly thanks to popular culture with bands like Pet Shop Boys and shows like MTV’s Real World, Ellen, Queer Eye For The Straight Guy, The L Word, etc. A lot of it also has to do with the fact that young people can escape their conservative bubbles on the internet and become more familiar with gay people. A world where Republicans no longer used red herring and slippery slope fallacies like ‘If we let gays marry, people will marry kids and pets’. A world where gays can get married and join the military.
And that is the thing — these are young people who came of age in a post Civil Rights Era world where most of the major LGBTQ battles were already won using Civil Rights Era legal precedent arguments that black folks used all the way up to the Supreme Court, and little to no thanks to the Democratic Party.
These are young people who looked back in their history books and saw that the Democratic Party passed DADT and DOMA under Bill Clinton and have no historic context nor concept of how civil rights are earned through progression in the way that the modern progressive movement understands.
The Clinton Era was a discontinuity in the trajectory of progression.
As a result, this is why we saw so many gay and especially white young people among the alt-right in the 2016 election — their priorities had shifted. Especially if they came from right wing conservative households like Charlie Kirk’s shooter did. Race, economic ideology and religion became more of a priority in a world where they no longer felt the friction of sexual orientation acceptance as the old LGBQT guard once did.
America is still stuck in the outdated assumption that if someone is gay or transsexual, they must be a Leftist or a Democrat, and the Left is no exception. Gay people and transsexuals can be right wing, from Kaitlyn Jenner, to Peter Thiel, to Milos Yiannopoulos, especially if they’re of the younger generation that has never known the progressive struggle and live in an environment where they are being repressed due to their sexual orientation whether it is their home, school, church or their political sphere.
It is not surprising that these shootings often happen in these repressive conservative environments.
As for the Democratic Party, it must use its history of failing LGBTQ people and that connection to the alt-right — not only as a shield in the coming attacks but also as an explainer why they lost these young shooters and in order to redeem itself.
The truth may hurt, but it is the truth and we must speak truth to power.
