He Cosplays Firebombing & Blitzing Our Homeland: All This & Civil War II? [1]

Be it resolved: not for a nanosecond can an obese orange agent (who gloms onto a lean, mean, cinematic connoisseur of ‘eau de napalm’) be up to any good. (All the more if, in real life, he’s brandished not cavalry spurs, but bone spurs.)

For all his AI aggrandizement and lout-mouthed bluster, when it comes to stopping war, he’s more like jelly on toast than jellied gasoline. Exhibit A: at best, he’s fallen light years short of his claim that he’d end his pal Vladimir Putin’s siege of Ukraine overnight.

Casting about like a bull in a bomb shop, he now disparages the same “Apocalypse Now” conflict that his original, vicious, vainglorious Chipocalypse meme so keenly buys into. (This by way of contrasting it with our winning, good old-fashioned oomph in prior conflicts.)

Especially in the fray for which my late father volunteered: WWII. In which our worst enemy’s basic MO was “Lightning War.” That is, in the original German, “Blitzkrieg.” Which- let it be stressed- Trump’s own cult now proudly claims to foist, via “Midway Blitz,” on Chicago. (All the more in light of said napalm: can you say “scorched earth?” I knew you could.)

Let’s face it. Our evidently profess mad bomber in chief gets history dead, stinking wrong. In truth, a remarkably robust roster of US veterans of world war brought its experience, know-how, and oomph to the stomping ground of the Trump-beloved Lt. Col. Bill “Smell of Napalm” Kilgore: Vietnam.

This, by the way, was on a bipartisan basis. In WWI, artillery captain Harry Truman (who’d volunteered) shelled the Lusitania-larrupin’ Huns. In 1945, near the end of WWII, he took over our White House (on FDR’s death). There, sad to say, he supported France’s would-be face-saving, brutally freedom-averse colonization of Indochina… and was left holding the (body) bag when it predictably failed.

On we marched. As Ike’s veep, former WWII logistics wiz (turned domestic Red Scare Monger) Richard Nixon amped up his boss’s “domino” hypothesis- which, in effect, served to call on us to try to dictate to the Nam.

After beating Nixon in 1960, WWII Navy combat hero JFK deployed some 16,000 military advisors to South Vietnam. Doing so, he effectively set the stage for the Silver Star winning WWII aerial observer LBJ to drum up a campaign to bomb North Vietnam into the Stone Age.

For its own good, of course. (Shades of Chicago, now apparently slated to be saved, blitzed, AND burned by Trump. What a concept!)

Succeeding LBJ as Prez, Tricky Dickie secretly and illegally expanded the action into Cambodia and Laos. And yet Trump now has the gall to effectively scorn such Nam smashers as him and Johnson as, in so many words, not tough enough. (Yikes.)

So, what of our troop commanders over there? Were they really as ‘woke’-cum-wimpy as grumpy Trumpy connotes (if not denotes)?

Not so much. From 1964-1968, our troop commander in the Nam was WWII artillery officer William Westmoreland. (Born & bred in the deep red South Carolina piedmont, by the way, he in fact was about as far from woke as you could hope to find.)

When he floundered in yon quagmire, enter the renowned WWII tank commander, Creighton Abrams. Now, where have we heard that name before? (Aside to Trump: do you have a clue for whom the tanks you sent to DC’s streets this past June were named? Or, for that matter, who’s buried in Grant’s Tomb?)

Here’s the thing. Blowing back against tyrants (from George III to Confederate slave lords to Adolf Hitler), American troops, commanders, and pols have done us proud. However, when our own compatriots (from said bipartisan line of boondogglers in the Nam to George ‘WMD’ Bush and cohort in Iraq) have unleased falsely pretexted, dark, despotic hell, things have not gone so well.

And now they look to worsen. While Trump’s firebrands assail US cities that have had the gall to not vote for him, some of Putin’s drones have done what looks like a test run for blitzing our NATO ally, Poland. (If that doesn’t augur Apocalypse Sooner or Later, our kids will be notably fortunate.)

Meanwhile, better late than never, can we wake up and smell the napalm? Or should we say, fat chance?
