Can a Blowhard Stop the Wind? [1]

The inferior United States Department of the Interior (via the BOEM, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management) has stopped funding for the Revolution Wind project (among others) off the shores of Rhode Island. Completed, this project will power hundreds of thousands of homes and save ratepayers millions of dollars over the course of 20 years. Additionally, thousands of construction jobs will be lost if the project is not completed.
The project is over 80% complete. Stopping at this point is
JUST…PLAIN…STUPID!!!!
The President typifies offshore wind as too expensive and a threat to wildlife. Federal regulators also say offshore wind farms are a threat to “the protection of national security interests of the United States.”
THIS IS ALL BULLSHIT!
What is expensive is wasting the sunk costs of the almost-complete project. Mr. Drill-Baby-Drill doesn’t give an endangered kangaroo rat’s ass for wildlife. And typifying wind farms as a threat to national security is only a realistic threat to our national sanity.
Inferior Interior Secretary Doug Burgum cites wind turbines as a source of radar interference (Radar underwater? Really?), and worries about undersea drone swarm attacks through the wind farm. It seems the drones can only attack in this manner.
So why all this animus against wind power (and also solar)? The president has rallied his minions to stamp out green energy in favor of oil, gas, coal, and possibly nuclear.
The President often criticizes wind power as ugly, expensive, and inefficient. Every man, ugly or not, has the right to describe the aesthetic value of wind turbines in any way he likes. But they are neither expensive nor inefficient in light of fossil fuel alternatives. Even without subsidies, the cost per watt of solar and wind power is less than that of fossil fuels, and the installation of wind or solar farms is less than that of fossil fuel plants of the same generating capacity.
Intermittent? There are these things called batteries for energy storage. Nuclear? How many years are you willing to wait before the plant goes online when solar can be generating almost immediately?
The Boss has also ordered multiple previously unrelated agencies to find reasons to scuttle wind power. This witch hunt promises not only to provide fodder for conspiracy theorists and science deniers (many in the agencies!) but to further obfuscate the benefits of power generation without burning anything. And it attempts to remove the green option from the buying public.
Hey, Libertarians who voted for this shyster. Shouldn’t the market determine what power sources we desire?
Is this the free market you so dearly love?
The President’s buddies in the Brotherhood of Billionaire Burner-Barons, big oil and gas tycoons, abhor green energy. It is a threat to their energy dominance, our environment and health be damned. They cannot control the source.
Scarcity drives value. The great value of keeping the populace reliant on burning gas or oil (or burning anything) is in controlling the pipe or spigot or truck delivering the substance to be burned.
Here comes the wind and the sun!
They are democratizing sources of energy.
The forces of dirty darkness cannot prevent the sun from shining. Every day. Everywhere. They cannot keep the wind from blowing. With these sources widely available, the dirty energy bigwigs lose their stranglehold on energy distribution and their massive revenue streams.
Is it any surprise that they will do anything to prevent this from happening? Even to the point of handicapping America’s future competitiveness and portraying environmental disaster as an inconsequential hoax?
At the President’s request, the oil and gas industry contributed almost half a billion dollars to buy his presidency. The industry is currently receiving dividends from that investment. The administration is doing everything it can to handicap green energy. At the same time, it is extending billions and billions of dollars in tax incentives to the energy sources of the past century. Take America back, indeed.
WE ARE BEING PLAYED BY THE OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY!
The world is headed into an age where clean and renewable power is available without oligarchs exercising control. In America, the soulless leaders of the fossil fuel industry, in conjunction with a corrupt and complicit administration, prefer to make citizens pay both for our energy and for defiling our environment when cleaner and cheaper alternatives are available.
Our American idiocy will not be limited to padding the accounts of the oil executives and corrupt politicians. The age of oil is drawing to a close, and our addiction to antiquated technology will make us uncompetitive and set us back decades.
Wake up, Americans!
The criminal in the White House is stealing your future and selling it to the highest bidder while poisoning your family.
