“We don’t get to determine the consequences of our free speech,” Charlamagne Tha God said. [1]

My wife and I lived in East Tennessee for 11 years after retiring but came to our senses and moved to Maryland. The subject of free speech would come up often in ETN but the basic understanding of the First Amendment was always proven to be beyond the reach of those who would be arguing the case from the other side. If someone got in their face or told them they were wrong they would claim their first amendment right to free speech was being violated. In a discussion like this I would point out that the 1st guarantees that the government can not stifle your right to say what you want but does not restrict another person’s actions against you if what you said is vile or insulting to that person. That is why we have laws pertaining to assault, etc.. My reply would always be similar or close to the previous two sentences. Today I am pleased to see someone, Charlamagne, respond in a manner that makes my explanation seem primitive.

Thank you Charlamagne.
