UK ambassador fired over Epstein friendship [1]

Peter Mandelson. the UK’s ambassador to the USA, has been fired because of his friendship with Epstein.
The UK Foreign Office says that he had not declared “the depth and extent of [his] relationship with Jeffrey Epstein” and that “in light of that, and mindful of the victims of Epstein’s crimes, he has been withdrawn as ambassador with immediate effect.”
This is another revelation from the birthday book where Mandelson called Epstein “my best pal.”
Mandelson has a history of being “forced to resign” after scandals. He resigned as Trade and Industry Secretary in 1998 and as Northern Ireland Secretary in 2001. This is the first time, I think, that he has been directly fired. He was always seen in the UK as a political fix-it man, and his appointment as ambassador to the corrupt Trump government was something of a natural, if deeply evil, fit.
It is unclear at the moment who will replace him but, as Trump will be visiting the UK later this year, I imagine it will be a priority.
