Political violence is abhorrent. But in reality we still do not know if Charlie Kirk’s murder was political violence. Charlie Kirk is political. And there was violence. But there is currently nothing to connect the two. What is at least as abhorrent to me is the canonization of Charlie Kirk. I believe this will go down at “the Charlie Kirk fiction” where people create a character, completely disregarding the actual human being, for their own convenience. Atrios at the end of one of his posts writes the people claiming Charlie Kirk was some great loss either don’t know who Charlies Kirk was, know who he was but pretend they don’t (for their careers or status) — I am looking at you Ezra Klein, or know who he was and agree with him. The people who I feel most horrible for are Black female academics (though there is a long line). He has been attacking and terrorizing this group for most of his adult life. How they must feel watching flags fly at half mast for him, watching the mainstream media extol his virtues. Close behind is the LGBTQ+ community. Does this make these people feel like they don’t exist, like who they are in our society in meaningless? I cannot comprehend their feelings of despair and abandonment from a society that once pretended to care. Maybe worse is Polis,

Shapiro and Newsom and their immediate order to fly flags at half mast and their comments. Committing political suicide, this will be the first ad out of any shop in a democratic primary. Why would they do this. Have they always agreed with him and now feel safe showing their true face? I think it is more careerist moves, but how horrible.

You do not need to describe Charlie Kirk. I thought what Mathew Dowd said and was fired for was essentially correct but it is too easy for people who argue against. When talking about Charlie Kirk just repeat what he said, over and over again, for the rest of Ezra Klein’s, and Jared Polis’, and all the other lives. So they are always responsible.
