Dear Daily Kos Readers, [1]

One of the pushbacks and question I often get here is: Who am I talking to or about, usually followed by the comment that DK readers are not like this or like that or that I’m preaching to the choir.
Recently on one such comment, someone replied that in the beginning DK did not have a shareable link, that made me view such comments in a new way. Gave me perspective as they say.
The reason I use DK is because it allows me the flexibility to write long articles that I do not have to ‘thread” in multiple posts on my social media. That is to say, when I first came here, my primary audience was not DK, hell I didn’t even know there was a comment section. Anyone who clicks on a DK link can read an entry, but only those that create an account can view and engage in comments.
Now I’ve made friends, followers and yes a few enemies here, so there are things that I only post to DK, just like there are things I only post on certain social media here’s my breakdown for the curious ones:
Facebook: Haitian politics & family stuff usually in French or Haitian Creole
TikTok and Instagram: usually reserved for Nate stuff, drawings, old videos and personal poetry
Threads, LinkedIn, YouTube: I rarely use
Twitter, Spoutible and Bluesky: Big biggest follower accounts: US Politics and Social Postings
I also have Mastodon but only used it for like one month
(if anyone wants to follow me on any of these, the name is the same everywhere, I think YouTube and TikTok added some numbers but I rarely use those)
Most of the political and social stuff I post here, I share on my accounts reserved for such discourse. I don’t think of my social media accounts as separate entities, to me I’m publishing to “my audience” wherever they may hang. So no, most times my entries are not about DK readers, heck they are not about the readers in general, but about my perspectives on things I’ve seen or read, my thoughts or opinion on a given topic.
I have taken pains to try and remember not to use the word you so much, I’m not there yet but I’m trying, because I think it draws away from my content when people think I’m addressing them directly and the discussions become about that. However, I’ve noticed that even though I’ve used “people” or “we” or US Citizens’ that comment about “are you talking to me/us” keeps coming back.
So, I decided to write this in order to dissipate doubt and explain myself! Just call me Lucy! I don’t know if it will work, but at least I gave it the old college try, although well I’ve never gone to college!
Also I thought we needed some lighthearted topic today!
PS. for those who didn’t know about the shareable link, you can spread your fave diaries/entries that way to reach more folks or keep them informed!
