It seems so small [1]

A woman in a parking lot asked me for bus fare the other day. The bus fare is $4.00. I gave the woman a $10, all I had. It seemed like a small amount of money, but she protested that it was too much, that the bus was only $4.00. I think $4.00 for the bus is too much but my $10 seems like such a small thing. So small. And I live below the poverty line.

Which is why I was surprised when I found out that Cindy Green and others running for House of Delegates in Virginia, all in rural areas, asked for the equivalent of bus fare and have received very little response.

Cindy and 20+ candidates from Charles Gaba’s 27 value pack act blue page sent a nice letter to 72 state legislators and various other party affiliated groups. It was a nice letter too.

Dear fellow Democrats,

Many of us haven't had a Democrat running for state house in our districts for many cycles. This cycle, each of us decided to provide an opportunity for voters in our districts to have a choice on their ballots. We understand that we will not have the resources to run the types of campaigns that our Democratic candidates in more competitive districts are encouraged to run. We accept that fact. We not only live in very Republican districts, we live in reality. This is why we've chosen to put our names on the ballot. The current state of affairs in America & Virginia has motivated each of us to stand up for our principles, and we are doing so, providing much needed ground level Democratic activity in previously electorally depressed areas of the Commonwealth.

We are very respectfully requesting a minimal level of financial support from our party, our party's statewide candidates, & our party's legislative caucuses, showing appreciation for our commitment to do this important organizational work.

Our specific request is for the 51 Democratic house members, the 21 Democratic senate members, the 3 statewide campaigns, and the state party, to contribute ~ $1,070 dollars each to this ActBlue page (

Thank you in advance for your support. We win as a team. In solidarity, We are a group of state house Democratic candidates, many of whom are running in the most (R) leaning house districts in this 2025 election cycle. If you will take this simple step immediately, each of the 27 Democrats running in the most (R) leaning house districts will have $3k dollars from the party affiliated entities receiving this letter. That is more than enough for us to wage effective campaigns in our districts.Thank you in advance for your support. We win as a team. In solidarity,

6 legislators (out of 72) have responded. 5 donated and one responded thanks but no thanks. Responses are good and I know how to get more folks to respond. We can contact the same people Cindy did and give them a nudge.

Because I tell you what, they are still not getting it. There was an article in the Virginia Mercury today about the DLCC giving $1.5 million to the VA Party to help assure a bigger victory.

Let's encourage the DPVA to spread that money around. Give some bus fare to the candidates in rural areas where the bus doesn’t run that often, and it’s cheaper too, doesn’t even cost $4.00, it’s a quarter.
