On April 5, 2023, at a TPUSA Faith event, Charlie Kirk said :

You will never live in a society when you have an armed citizenry and you won't have a single gun death. That is nonsense. It's drivel. But I am -- I think it's worth it. I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights. That is a prudent deal. It is rational. Nobody talks like this. They live in a complete alternate universe.

Now that Kirk is the one who has paid the ultimate cost for living in a society "when you have an armed citizenry," I wonder if he still thinks that price was worth it. Of course, we can't know. Although if Kirk, a devout evangelical Christian, is right about the Divine order of things, he will be able to tell his fellow Christians when they meet up later in heaven. Which, God willing, is Kirk's "complete alternate universe."

Of course, if Kirk has been weighed in the celestial balance and found wanting — and consequently finds himself in the hot place — then he will still be in an alternate universe.

I am conflicted. I don't want to disagree with the dead. I would prefer not to have animosity in my heart. And I try to stay true to "de mortuis nil nisi bonum." But on the other hand, I am human, and the shadow of schadenfreude brushes my soul.

Ultimately I want to eschew hate and I dream of living in a world were all people are touched by the better angels of our nature. Therefore, I will stick to mentioning that at least Kirk understood the nature of the gun policy he was promoting.

Thoughts and prayers, Charlie. RIP
