Oregon Former GOPer Dr. Cyrus Javadi “Gets” It-- He Joins The Democratic Party September 8, 2025
While far too many people in the media keep emphasizing how Demagoge/Dictator Wannabe Donald is “changing” U.S. politics with his bombastic “in your face style,” there still is, fortunately, a strong resistance to his anti-democracy moves. Especially encouraging are several Republican legislators who have switched parties and joined “Team Blue.” I recently profiled one of those ex-GOPers now in our “Big Tent,” Georgia’s former Lieutenant Governor, Geoff Duncan. Duncan is not the only “Team Red” legislator who has joined us. On September 5, 2025, Dr. Cyrus Javadi, who currently represents the 32nd District in the Oregon House of Representatives, joined the “Blue” camp.

His biography is a unique American success story. During his childhood, Javadi moved to New England for several years. As a teenager, he returned to Utah to attend high school and college. He earned a BS from Mormon Brigham Young (BYU) University in accounting and did financial and tax work. In 2008, he earned his dental degree and moved to Astoria, Oregon to begin his career in a local dentist’s office.

https://www.cyrusfororegon.com/about Because of an economic downturn, Dr. Javadi found himself forced to pursue his career in Texas. However, he missed the Oregon Coast, and about ten years ago, he came back to that region to practice dentistry. He serves as vice-chair of the OR House Committee on Health Care. He has championed policies to bring down the costs of health care and prescription drugs. He has advocated policies to address overdose deaths as well as supporting crime victims and domestic abuse survivors. He still runs his dental clinic in Tillamook. Dr. Javadi previously served as commissioner for the Port of Tillamook and was board member and secretary of the Oregon Dental Association.

So why did Rep. Javadi change his party affiliation? For several major reasons. He noted the state GOP’s total anti-tax and anti-free speech attitudes. He said such GOP beliefs conflicted with his district’s needs.

In announcing his switch to “Team Blue,” Dr. Javadi emphasized his constituents over “partisan politics.” He stated he will remain “an independent voice for the North Coast.” Rep. Javadi aptly added, “Too many extreme politicians in today’s Republican Party have abandoned these values, which is why I made the decision to join the Democratic Party. I’m not leaving my principles, just aligning with people who still share them, still show up to govern, and are more interested in bipartisan solutions than obstruction. My loyalty is first and foremost to the people of my district and I won’t waver from my values in order to fit into a partisan mold.” Rep. Javadi could not have said it better. Rep. Javadi now joins the Democratic supermajority in the OR House. In that chamber, Democrats hold 37 seats to the GOP’s 23. He will run in the 2026 midterm election as a Democrat.

Several officials, when they heard about Rep. Javadi’s party switch, praised his hard work and legislative accomplishments. They were not upset about his going over to “Team Blue.”Tillamook County Commissioner Erin Skaar stated, “Rep. Cyrus Javadi has worked relentlessly to create good jobs and fight rising costs for coastal families. He doesn’t hide behind political slogans or shy away from tough conversation.” She also added, “He (Javadi) is dedicated solely to his constituents and for that, he’s earned our trust and respect, regardless of political party.”
