I follow Brainwrap closely here at DK. He has been the one to go to for healthcare info for a long time, AND he does amazing things with political fundraising.

I follow him here at DK and on Blue Sky. Hell, I’d follow him home but he’s too clever for that and changes routes on a regular basis.

Yesterday he started a conversation on Blue Sky that’s still going on. Please oh please, click on anyone of his posts and follow the story down the line. It’s so very telling.

x Holy Crap. I'll be honest: I originally set up my "Virginia Value Pack" fundraising page as a favor to @90for90.bsky.social (it's not that I was opposed to the idea, just that I was already swamped trying to juggle a dozen other fundraising pages). 1/ secure.actblue.com/donate/vaval...

Seriously, click in and read the whole piece about MOUs. It could be an eye opener. It’s safe to click the link, Josh is a Virginia politico and knows what he’s talking about.

x But just now I read this post about the "Memorandum of Understanding" which Democratic legislative candidates in Virginia are required to agree to in order for the Dem Caucus committee to even *consider* supporting them. It's...revealing. 2/ joshstanfield.substack.com/p/means-of-c...

x It's reasonable for the Dem caucuses to have reasonable benchmarks for candidates to clear in order to ensure their financial/logistical support--the ability to raise $X amount, to knock on Y doors per month, etc, along with general vetting to make sure they don't have too many skeletons, etc. 3/ — Charles Gaba (@charlesgaba.com) September 6, 2025 at 4:23 PM

I don’t think it’s reasonable at all. I think this kind of crap is why D’s lose all the damn time.

x Some of this, however goes WAY beyond seems reasonable: "...use our campaign managers, our preferred vendors, our finance software, give us access to your field data, don’t sign contracts/spend money without our permission & don’t take policy positions or pledges without our permission, either." 4/ — Charles Gaba (@charlesgaba.com) September 6, 2025 at 4:26 PM

Seriously click on these, read the replies. Some big-time grassroots activists comment as well as Jane Kleeb the Chair of chairs of the DNC.

x Even worse, according to this post, candidates have to sign off on all of this and more in order to even be CONSIDERED for support; apparently it's not guaranteed even if they check off all of the boxes. w/that in mind...please give generously to these campaigns: secure.actblue.com/donate/vaval...

x P.S. I should note that it's *possible* that I'm being naive here and this sort of Memo of Understanding is standard throughout state Dem caucuses nationally. It seems pretty excessive to me, but perhaps not; I'm not privy to how these decisions are made. Just thought I should throw that in there. — Charles Gaba (@charlesgaba.com) September 7, 2025 at 2:29 PM

I don’t think Charles is naive in any way. I think he’s wicked smart and very, very kind. Too kind to think that party players might be out for themselves, and the system they have established.

Cindy Green yeah, she’s a rural candidate for sure!

What do I think about the Party wanting a piece of the action more than wanting a win? Well, I think it’s the same as it ever was.

This is where my story ends. Anything between this and the comments has nothing to do with me. ZT
