It's still not a good invasion if you install Juan Guaidó as Chicago Mayor [1]

Trump’s to-do list has included a coup in Venezuela since 2017, but TACOs may prevail again, since American puppet governments have tended to fail. And like most ‘military operations’, it’s about resources like oil.

Trump got lots more bad news during the week (court losses, the economy, Epstein-Maxwell scandal) & is trying harder than ever to create distractions (extrajudicial killings in international waters, invading Chicago & renaming the DoD) to divert attention from his failing presidency.

The other side: "What they're threatening to do against Venezuela — regime change, a military terrorist attack — is immoral, criminal and illegal," Maduro said Friday , before he called on citizens to join a militia to fight off an anticipated U.S. invasion.

Flashback: Maduro was first indicted , during Trump's first term, and was accused of being the leader of a drug gang called Cartel de los Soles, which Treasury designated a foreign terror group last month. A superseding indictment could drop soon.

(2020)

Operation Gideon was an unsuccessful attempt by the Active Coalition of the Venezuelan International Reserve, Venezuelan dissidents, and a private security firm, Jordan Goudreau's Silvercorp USA, to infiltrate Venezuela by sea and remove Nicolás Maduro from power. The plan executed from 3 to 4 May 2020 was for expatriate Venezuelan former military personnel living in Colombia to enter the country by boat at Macuto, take control of an airfield, capture Maduro and other high-level figures in his administration, and expel them from the country.

(2019)

Just before dawn on 30 April, the Venezuelan opposition launched yet another attempt at a military coup. By the end of the day, the botched coup attempt seemed to have failed, with one of its leaders seeking refuge in the Spanish embassy, 25 of the soldiers involved requesting asylum at the Brazilian embassy and Juan Guaidó in hiding or on the run.

The coup started at 5.46 am with a video message by Guaidó, who proclaimed himself president in charge on 24 January at a street rally, but who has not moved an inch closer to Miraflores Palace since. In the video, he appeared outside La Carlota military airbase in the east of Caracas, together with a small group of army soldiers. Also present was Leopoldo López, the opposition leader under house arrest for his role in the deadly guarimba riots of 2014. Apparently, he had been released by the SEBIN intelligence officers in charge of guarding him.

Guaidó’s message was clear: “I am with the main military units of our Armed Forces starting the final phase of ‘Operation Freedom’”. This was the final battle against ‘usurpation’. The presence of López was a powerful prop. However, as was to become clear in the following hours, his claims to have the support of the “main military units” was a lie. He did not have control of any military units or bases, no commanding officers were on his side. In fact, despite claims to the contrary he was not inside La Carlota base, but outside. He had not taken control of any TV or radio stations.
