The Importance of Education
Some mothers and fathers go hungry for a month and work from sunrise to midnight, to afford the back-to-school fees in Haiti, which include the buying of books and backpacks, most kids in Haiti have a backpack that is falling apart at the seams.
Education, no matter how bad, is the most important thing to Haitian families. Every penny a Haitian parent makes is directed towards their children and as I’ve stated before most do not even make 100$ a month. The cost of supplies in Haiti is more than a family makes in a month or even 3.
This is why way back when I added back to school drives to my actions. And again I will reiterate that while the economy is bad in the US that is relative. It’s relative because for the cost of a pizza $20 or so, you could outfit a kindergartener in Haiti, for 40$ a simple diner out? You could outfit a middle schooler and for around 60$ a high schooler. Sharing or asking others to partake is free.
Yes, I do drives for Haiti all the time, because well people need to eat every day. However, my back-to-school, Christmas, and medicine drives are in a way more important, for they allow people to survive, to have hope in a country where things are a thousand times worse than in developed countries.
I have a list of 329 children, I have barely raised enough for 31 kits. I haven’t even reached 1k in donations. If 200 folks each gave 20 bucks I’d be at 4k, if 400 folks gave 20$ I could outfit every single one of the kids on my list. So think about it, if you can’t donate share or ask your community if they can participate.
