I’m not sure what’s going on but it seems news stories and posts of individuals and groups doing something local to help with Period Poverty in their areas are growing. People seem tired of waiting for someone else to do something and just doing it. When the food bank drive, that is part of our weekly protest started I was the only one bringing period products, now at least 2-3 others are a week. I have always said, they are a lot lighter to carry then a bag of caned goods.

x More like this, please! Project Marilyn is a nonprofit 501(c)3 in Nevada solely dedicated to ending period poverty. Because everyone deserves a healthy and dignified period. PERIOD — Captain Fanta (@sassy0210.bsky.social) 2025-08-31T17:18:00.013Z This Library did not wait for a State wide group, they are crowd sourcing their supplies. Period poverty’ being addressed in Hampton Roads www.yahoo.com/… “The poor can drive or walk up to the pantry on West Constance Road to gather food for their families. The format is “take what you need, leave what you can—no forms, no questions.” I am not wild about the wording of the article but they are trying to help the Community. “The Hampton Roads community can help by donating any kind of menstrual care products to any Suffolk Public Library branch. Those in need can go to the front desk at any of those branches and ask for a care kit.”

Individuals and groups are stepping up. www.dakotanewsnow.com/... “CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KCRG) - A Girl Scout from Cedar Falls received the Gold Award for her push to fight period poverty in schools, a project that led to the development of Iowa Bill HF883. Elle Smith, of Cedar Falls, has been recognized with the Gold Award for helping address period poverty in Iowa schools and playing a key role in creating an Iowa bill. The bill aims to provide free and easy access to feminine products in school restrooms in the state of Iowa. “Period poverty is when a woman doesn’t have the ability to pay for the items necessary during her period. This is a real issue for women across the country; in fact, 23% of teenage girls say they struggle with period poverty in their family,” says Smith. “There is a serious issue surrounding girls’ ability to go to school and learn because they don’t have the products they need while they are menstruating, and my ultimate goal was lessening or eliminating that in the state of Iowa.” Parkersburg woman builds pink pantries to fight period poverty www.wtap.com/… www.wtap.com/… “PARKERSBURG, W. Va . (WTAP) - A woman from Parkersburg is taking initiative to help women in her community by providing free access to and education about menstrual products. The project is called Pink Period Pantries and it was launched in March 2025 by Isabelle Moore, the founding director of the Wood County Women’s Rights Alliance. Moore says the idea started with a Facebook comment. “Someone anonymously posted in our Facebook group that they needed period products and so I looked online to see if there was anywhere that provided them and nobody did. So I decided to start it myself,” says Moore.”

”How One Women is Working to Combat 'Period Poverty"

“From a center in Philadelphia, Lynette Medley distributes free tampons, menstrual cups, pads and underwear to those who lack access because of financial barriers”

“We don’t think about some of the mental health outcomes that can come from this,” she said. “Period poverty can lead to worsened anxiety and depression for young people and it can also truly interfere with normal teen social and emotional development.

“A young person may not be afforded that opportunity to really develop their own identity, because they’re so concerned and wrapped up with taking care of their periods and feeling that shame and stigma.”

Young women are pushing back on Corporate Greed and climate change. Politics Young People Are Fighting Climate Anxiety in Arkansas With Parties and Free Menstrual Cups

“Arkansas ranks as the second most at-risk state after Florida due to extreme heat, tornadoes, and minimal investment in climate adaptation projects from its Republican-led legislature.” “From the very beginning, they understood that the best way to build a movement was to respond to people's immediate needs. After brainstorming different ways to get started, Zero Hour Arkansas partnered with Campus Cup to pass out free menstrual cups to students. They played music and handed out the cups in sleek, climate-friendly packaging. Students started to associate Zero Hour with forward-thinking, helpful solutions. Based on the number of cups that were distributed, the group believes it diverted more than 200,000 pounds of waste from cotton pads and tampons, showing how concentrated action on college campuses can have an outsized impact.” Churches Crowd sourcing for the Food Bank. x The Junior League of Akron has been supporting our Food Pantry both with volunteers and with a supply of period products for our clients. This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about their project, Period Poverty, and why it is important here, in Ohio, and in the country. — First Congregational Church of Akron (@akronfcc.bsky.social) 2025-09-05T20:59:08+00:00
