Caturday Pootie Diary: Snuggle season [1]

Freddie settled on the furry pillow we kept on the family room couch for him. I had bought it at Costco a few years ago thinking he’d like to sleep on it and for once was right. As soon as he was fully stretched out, I pinched the edge of the pillow with my fingers and dragged the whole thing, cat and all, toward me.

He started to stand, but was too slow. I caught him with one arm and hugged his body to mine, his back to my side. Quickly, I adjusted him so we’d both be more comfortable.

“Human, no,” he squeaked.

“Shh,” I said. “It’s cuddle time.”

A gentle reminder of how we do things: 🐱🐶🐦 Do not troll the diary. If you hate pootie diaries, leave now. No harm, no foul.

Please do share pics of your fur kids! If you have health/behavior issues with your pets, feel free to bring it to the community.

Pooties are cats; Woozles are dogs. Birds... are birds! Peeps are people.

Whatever happens in the outer blog STAYS in the outer blog. If you’re having “issues” with another Kossack, keep it “out there.” This is a place to relax and play; please treat it accordingly. There are some pics we never post: snakes, creepy crawlies, any and all photos that depict or encourage human cruelty toward animals. These are considered “out of bounds” and will not be tolerated. If we alert you to it, please remember that we do have phobic peeps who react strongly to them. If you keep posting banned pics...well then...the Tigress will have to take matters in hand. Or, paw.

“Don’t fight the snuggle,” I whispered into his fur. “Enjoy the snuggle.”

“No snuggle,” he said, leaning away from me with all his strength.

With a sigh, I released him. He didn’t go far, much to my relief.

We eyed each other from across the furry pillow.

“Come back and cuddle,” I implored.

“No.”

“It’s cooling off,” I crooned. “Prime time to snuggle.”

He sat, watching me carefully.

"I might lie on your lap if you cover it with the furry blanket,” he offered.

I shook my head. “It’s still too hot for that,” I said.

“There’s your answer,” he told me, then jumped off the couch and sauntered off.

“No, come back!” I called after him, reaching with on ineffective hand.

He ignored me.

Freddie watched me from the lower part of the coffee table. He was reclined on the table runner we kept there. It had been neatly laid out when he climbed on top of it, but now it was bunched up beneath his body.

I rolled my eyes at him. “Do you have to make a mess of that runner every time you lie under there?”

His only answer was the thump of his tail against the surface on which he was lying.

“Come up here,” I coaxed, patting the couch beside me. “We can snuggle.”

He lowered his head to rest on his paws, closing his eyes.

“Maybe I can climb under there with you,” I mused.

His tail struck the table again.

As the afternoon wore on, the house grew warmer. It was starting to become uncomfortable.

“Tired of summer,” I muttered, fidgeting to get more comfortable.

Freddie appeared on the couch beside me and walked, determined, to my side. “What’s this?” I wondered, my hand automatically lifting to pet him.

He plopped down next to me, his body pressed against my side and thigh.

“It’s too hot,” I complained, still petting him.

“Snuggle,” he murmured, purring.

I sighed, and submitted to the heat.

Finally, it was cooling off. The hottest part of the day had lasted a little less long than in the days proceeding, but it had still been too hot for too long. I felt tired and groggy.

My arm tightened around Freddie and he woke up.

“It’s getting cool enough to cuddle,” I observed.

He stood, lifting himself out of my hold, then stretched and prepared to leave.

“No!” I cried, lunging to grab him.

He was too fast.

I finished loading the last dirty dish into the dishwasher and closed it, then picked up a dishtowel to dry my hands.

Freddie was at his food dish, finishing the last of his dinner.

“Kitty!” I said, as he stepped away from his meal.

“Oh no,” he said, breaking into a fast trot.

He was too slow and I caught him, swinging him up into my arms. I kissed the side of his face, then did it again.

"Too much,” he said, leaning away from me.

“You gonna come to bed with me?” I demanded.

“No, it’s still too hot to sleep upstairs.”

“Yeah, but my bed’s up there,” I said, gently setting him back on the floor. “Well. Good night, I guess.”

He walked away.

Some time later, I woke suddenly, startled awake by a sharp meow! from behind me.

“Right,” I croaked, sleepily. I turned from my side to my back, giving Freddie a platform on which to lie and be petted.

He immediately climbed on top of me and settled there. I rubbed his fur with both hands.

I took stock of my situation and noted with relief that my room was a reasonable temperature for once, even slightly chilly with the fan blowing on me.”This is a perfect time to cuddle,” I said.

“Perfect,” Freddie agreed, slowly closing his eyes, a smile on his precious face.

Happy Caturday, Peeps! I am happy to report that the Southern California heat is finally breaking. I hope it is wherever you are too.
