When Pigs Fly: the NRA tells transphobes to pound sand [1]

In a week when James O’Keefe seems to be on the right side of things, Courts tell Dump that he has violated the posse comitatus Act, Thomas Mackie is buds with Ro Khanna, and three GOP women senators (who have caused much amusement around here) demand release of the Epstein information, and a bunch of other weird things, the National Rifle Association seems to have rejected out of hand the latest GOP attempts to link mass shootings exclusively to trans people. If someone else has already posted, my apologies, but I was looking at the Newsweek website and one of the main stories is the NRA rejecting any narrative which will lead depriving any class of individual from exercising their ‘right to bear arms,’ trans people included.

The National Rifle Association insists the Second Amendment "isn't up for debate" as senior Justice Department officials have reportedly held internal deliberations about issuing regulations restricting transgender individuals from possessing guns in the wake of a shooting at a Catholic school in Minnesota that left two children dead and 17 others injured on August 27.
"The NRA supports the Second Amendment rights of all law-abiding Americans to purchase, possess and use firearms," the group said in a statement posted on X Friday. "NRA does not, and will not, support any policy proposals that implement sweeping gun bans that arbitrarily strip law-abiding citizens of their Second Amendment rights without due process."

"The Second Amendment guarantees the rights of all Americans, and no subset of 'the People' can be singled out for disparate treatment as punishment for the criminal acts of an apparent member of the group," SAF told Newsweek in a statement. "Gun owners are all too familiar with the tactic of punishing everyone for the evil criminal acts of an individual, and this issue is no different."

I have to admit that I wouldn’t have expected this from them. Yes, I understand why they are doing it. It would create a slippery slope for confiscation of firearms or denial of the ability to buy firearm, which they deplore, and all of the other issues with the NRA with which we are familiar and have been discussed here over the years. However, I found it interesting that they said ‘Disarming trans individuals based purely on their self-identification… as it might suggest that they do accept the idea of transgender as a legitimate thing, thumbing their collective noses at MAGA who profess it is not real. Or it may just be rhetorical b.s.
What do you think? Is this an implicit recognition of trans people or self-serving, rhetorical bullshit? I would do a poll, but it looked wrong, so I deleted it.
