Because I am taking next week off from my DK duties, I will need a sub for next week.
One of the things that has been helping me take the doom out of the scrolling is an Instagram (and maybe even TikTok) show where Samuel Donner goes around asking strangers whether they would cook for him for $100.
Many say no, for obvious reasons. Some people do agree to the challenge and the results do make for compelling watching.
The food preparation and the meal is not the only thing that makes Donner’s formula for this show work; it’s also the the willingness of the strangers that take on the challenge in opening up their homes and their lives in many different aspects.
My absolute favorite challenge is the one in this video short in London, where the house tour is as delightful as looking at the preparation of the food. This video, also done in London, is also one of my favorites.
Now...I am sure there is a lot of prep that goes into all of the elements of the show; some advance scouting of the challengers and what not...but it is good to know that what makes it in these takes proves that “the kindness of strangers” is still a thing in this world.
The show in the country of Georgia with a Russian native was one of the more controversial one and was also a pretty heartwarming one.

Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down.
